Pentagon to Investigate Kerry's War Medals

Update: The Pentagon's acceptance of Judicial Watch's complaint, as opposed to merely its acknowledgment of receipt of it, has yet to be credited by mainstream media. See the many comments. See also the Sept. 3 Chicago Sun Times article which says no action on the complaint has been taken.

Update: Time Magazine reported on June 22, 1998 that Richard Mellon Scaife, the "premier sugar daddy of the American right" gave Judicial Watch $550,000. in 1997. (available on lexis.com) The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reported last week that Scaife continues to give annually to Judicial Watch through his Carthage Foundation, and details another complaint Judicial Watch has filed questioning donations to Kerry's senate campaign.

Your tax dollars at work. The Pentagon is going to investigate John Kerry's receipt of five Vietnam war medals.

The highly unusual inquiry is to be carried out by the Inspector-General's Office of the US Navy. Senator Kerry served as a Swift boat captain for four months in 1968, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was wounded in action and awarded three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.

It should come as no surprise who's behind the ridiculous move. Judicial Watch, which is anything but bipartisan, in my constitutionally protected opinion.

...the navy has agreed to a request by Judicial Watch, a bipartisan lobby group, for a full inquiry. Judicial Watch wants the navy to report before the elections, but navy officials are so far refusing to give a timetable for the inquiry.

Response from the Kerry campaign:

In an angry statement from Kerry campaign headquarters, senior Kerry adviser Michael Meehan condemned the navy inquiry as an expensive waste of Pentagon resources. "The facts are clear," Mr Meehan said. "The navy awarded John Kerry the Silver Star, a Bronze Star . . . and three Purple Hearts. This is a waste of taxpayers' dollars and the Pentagon's time, especially during wartime."

Mark Gisleson at Norwegianity has an even better response.

Other examples of Judicial Watch's lawsuits:

  • DOLLY KYLE BROWNING v. BILL CLINTON - As a settlement could not be reached, on behalf of Dolly Kyle Browning, Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit against, among others, President Clinton and Jane Mayer, a reporter for the New Yorker, alleging that she was harmed by these individuals in their attempts to prevent her from publishing a book describing her relationship with President Clinton.
  • JUDICIAL WATCH, INC. v. MARYLAND STATE PROSECUTOR
Judicial Watch filed a request under the Maryland Public Information Act in an attempt to gain information about prosecutor Stephen Montanarelli's politically motivated investigation of Linda Tripp. In an obvious attempt to intimidate Ms. Tripp, Mr. Montanarelli announced the start of his investigation just as Tripp was beginning her long awaited testimony before Ken Starr's grand jury.
  • AIM v. NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
Civil Action 97-2109. Judicial Watch filed these three related cases on behalf of Accuracy in the Media to uncover documentation behind the Clinton Administration's investigation into the death of former White House Deputy Counsel Vince Foster. Despite these investigations being officially closed, the Clinton Administration has continued to refuse to release relevant documents.
  • JUDICIAL WATCH v. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (HHS)
Civil Action No. 97-2026. Judicial Watch has filed suit to challenge the implementation of the Family Responsibility Act provisions on abstinence education by the Clinton Administration. According to media reports and concerned religious groups, the money is not being spent as Congress specifically directed and may instead be going to condoms and sex education.
  • JUDICIAL WATCH v. UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
Civil Action No. 97-2089. Judicial Watch has filed a lawsuit to obtain the documents that will explain the Clinton Justice Department's misconduct in three matters - Ruby Ridge, Waco, and the Richard Jewell cover-ups.

Judicial Watch founderand former Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman just lost his primary bid for the U.S. Senate in Florida. He is, as his senate site describes, a

Leading Enemy of Bill and Hillary Clinton and their "comrades" like Senators Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, and Charles Schumer of the "great left wing conspiracy".

Better yet, in his campaign's own words:

....government corruption, in conjunction with his desire to clean up a legal system run amok, led Larry to found Judicial Watch in 1994. As founder, Chairman and General Counsel, of Judicial Watch, Larry led the fight against the abuses of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Larry played a key role in exposing "Filegate", the scandal where the Clinton White House illegally gathered the confidential government files on key Republicans. Long before the media became aware of suspected Communist Chinese Commerce Department spy, Johnny Huang, a friend of the Clintons, Larry was asking the tough questions, and he was responsible for sparking the biggest scandal in American history, "Chinagate".

In September, 2003, Larry left Judicial Watch to run for the United States Senate. The organization continues the valuable and non-partisan work conceived of and commenced when Larry was Chairman. (our emphasis.)

Whose running Judicial Watch now? Tom Fitton. From his company's website:

Tom Fitton, 30, of Washington, DC, is the Editor and Publisher of Opinion, Inc. In addition to running Opinion, Inc., Fitton is separately President of Judicial Watch, Inc., a conservative legal watchdog group. (our emphasis)

Garbage in, garbage out.
