Pastor's Wife Saves 28 Orphans in Sri Lanka

A Pastor's wife in Sri Lanka used some quick thinking and saved 28 children from death by the Tsunami. The pastor was in bed, contemplating the sermon he would deliver in a few hours. The children were in their rooms, playing and getting dressed:

Then he heard the pounding of feet in the corridor outside his room, and his wife burst through the door, a frantic look on her face. "The sea is coming!" she said. "Come! Come! Look at the sea!"

Thanks to quick thinking, blind luck and an outboard motor that somehow started on the first pull, the orphans and their caretakers joined the ranks of countless survivors of the epic disaster that so far has claimed tens of thousands of lives in Sri Lanka and 10 other countries.

Crammed with more than 30 people, the dangerously overloaded launch roared into the lagoon at almost precisely the same moment that the wall of water overwhelmed the orphanage, swamping its one-story buildings to the rafters. "It was a thunderous roar, and black sea," he said.

....The orphans' ordeal did not end when their boat pulled away from the shore. Not only was water cascading over the lagoon side of the peninsula, but it also was pouring in directly from the mouth of the estuary about 2 miles away. Sanders feared the converging currents would swamp the small craft.

....The scene at the orphanage was one of utter devastation. The grounds were covered by up to three feet of sand. Several buildings, including the staff quarters, were entirely gone, and the others were damaged beyond repair.

....The Sanderses, their daughter and about a dozen of the orphaned and now displaced children have found temporary refuge in a tiny church; the rest have been sent elsewhere.

To whom it may concern, I was wondering if you could locate any poc' information pertaining to the article related to the 'Samaritan's Children's Home", and it's founder i.e. Daylan Sander's? I believe they have some information about a relatives home in Gathersburg Maryland who is taking contributions, would you have that address, or perhaps a phone number where they can be reached? Re Daylan Sanders Samaritan Orphanage: I contacted CNN and the only info I received was as follows: Thank you for contacting CNN. You may contact the Daylan Sanders Samaritan Home Orphanage at the following address: 3 Treworthy Road Gaithersburg, MD 20878 There will be a fundraiser open house for Samaritan Home Relief, from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at 3 Treworthy Road in Gaithersburg, MD 20878. For more information, call 301-279-2947. Contributions can be sent, with checks designed to Samaritan Home Relief, to the address above. However, I am still scouring the net to get more precise info. I watched Wolf Blitzer this afternoon who had Daylan Sander's sister on, and she was physically opening donation checks that she obviously received direct from somewhere. I don't know if they were direct-direct or through the above address. I, too, wish to donate to this orphanage. Remember, these children are part of Sri Lanka's future and they will NEVER forget the devistation that has happened to them. They will live to tell these stories. God bless them all.

I am thankful that Daylan Sanders gave credit to Jesus Christ for saving the orphans and his family, expecially during a season when the Savior's name has been nearly forgotten. I am surprised but grateful that CNN aired it. I caught it on tape and consider it a treasure.

I am not a member of Dayalan's faith but I was so moved by his account that I am donating monies for his charitable work. What a marvelous work he is doing. Too many of us merely pray and ask the Lord to bless the people in the tsunami hit areas. I impressed by this man's faith. He gave up his comfortable life to help his fellow man. No greater love than to give your life to save others.

The story of this orphanage is so touching. This man is truely a gift from god for those children. I havn't been able to stop thinking about the pain the entire region is going through. My 8 year old daughter and I have been talking about the tsunami. I showed where on the globe all this occurred and I know this will be something she never forgets. I think current events is the best way to teach our children many different lifelong facts and lessons. Through our discussions she decided to send her christmas money to the orphanage. It wasn't much, but I am just so proud of her. They are all in our prayers. God bless them in their time of need.

I was so touched by the story told by Daylan's sister, I decided to try to raise money for the orphanage in our school. As the art teacher, I teach every student in our elementary school. I have asked them all to make cards in my art classes. The cards are not to send to the orphans, but rather to give out to anyone who makes a donation to the orphanage from our school. The cards are blank note cards with pictures, designs, and decorations of hearts on the front. I asked them each to make one "heart card" from their heart for donations for the children from the orphanage. It was the only way I could think of for them to participate in something so devasting. I should find out tomorrow(Thursday) how generous people can be.

I am heartened by the response to the Daylan Sanders Orphanage. It shows me that there are still many good Christians in this world! I have made copies of the donation information and am passing them out everywhere I go. Hope it will do some good. I'm upset about the request from "Doctor's Without Borders" asking people to stop sending money. I'm sure there are still many places (including the orphanage) that could use the donation! Also, they could, perhaps, help the men replace their fishing boats so they can support their families. There are just so many, many good things they could do!

I videotaped both interviews that brother Sanders had with Anderson Cooper and Joe Scarborough last Sunday and edited the recording of his account into a 7 minute recording we have on Real Audio on our website. JUST TODAY....I have it, on good authority that, the Christian Broadcasting Network is sending a CBN News Team to Sri Lanica with Senior Reporter, GEORGE THOMAS who will hopefully find to interview, person-to-person, DAYLAN SANDERS. This is, of course, assuming that The CBN / 700 Club News Team can actually get to the location....details may change hour -to-hour.... but I think I remember that there is currently Islamic-related political issues that have delayed the U.S. Navy from proceeding with the landing of marines with extensive military medical assets, and multi-terrain and sea-capable hovercraft, on the Island of Sri Lanica... ...........though George, has been known to "sneak" into some remote places over in that neck of the world, and bring back some incredible video scenes, keen insights and in-depth interviews..... Our prayers go with George Thomas and His CBN News staff to Sri Lanica.......Keep Watching the 700 CLUB for the lastest. Regards...JPC

The governments of the countries affected by the tsunami are NOT looking at the option of American adoptions until all avenues are exhausted in the children's country of origin.

I thought maybe a quote and at least one news item might clarify.
Several Western European countries are following a similar no-adoptions policy regarding South Asia. The State Department and international adoption agencies caution that many parentless children may be claimed by aunts and uncles, grandparents, even distant cousins in cultures built on strong family bonds. The rest will likely be adopted by families in their native countries or watched over by protective neighbors and friends. "A child whose family has been ripped away by a wave, probably the last thing they need to do is be rushed away to some foreign country," said Cory Barron, spokesman for the St. Louis-based adoption agency Children's Hope International. "We have to think of the child first."

Consider this.... Original phone call--Daylan: "... I got the courage. I just stood up in the small boat, and I lifted both my hands and I said, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ, on the strength of the scriptures, that when the enemy comes in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall raise up a standard against him. ..." Now look at the actual Bible verse Daylan referenced : Isaiah 59:19 (NKJV) So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. Now consider this: Daylan is in BALTICALOA which on the east coast of the Island of SRI LANICA; The "..enemy.." tsunami is coming toward Him from the east and He is facing it as he speaks. And the 'power of God' in Daylan's voice is literally the fulfillment of the Bible verse as ".... The name of the LORD ['..Jesus..', (as Daylan speaks, His voice) comes] from the West, ..." !!! "/ Did that make sense?..Utterly Amazing !!! -JPC japcollins@earthlink.net

I am reading a book on and off that I picked up a week before Christmas. its called Three Magic Words by U.S. Andersen ( wilshire books ) on the pages I read today I found this paragraph and the quote below. >>Habits of possitive thinking, firmly ingrained, strongly built, will sustain you no matter the height of the seas, the strenghth of the tempest, or the fury of the storm. "Peace! be still!" will be your order. and the seas will abate in the face of your faith.<< " Lowly banish fear Right onward drive unharmed The port, well worth the cruise is near, and every wave is charmed." -Emerson both on the same page, could help thinking of Daylan Sanders KL

Ater hearing the testimony of Daylan Sanders I will never be the same. I know that Jesus was with him in the boat and spoke "Peace be still." The Word of God has power and there is power in the name of Jesus! There will always be those who do not believe that Jesus is alive today, then there are those like Daylan Sanders who are living testimonies of God's Power! It's one thing to share your personal opinion about things when you are on dry and safe ground, but I wonder when the storm is at your door, and the waves are coming your way, and darkness is all around you-----Will you then cry out to Jesus in any way you know how for help? The answer is YES! There is coming a day in every mans life when Jesus will be the name you call! So to those that don't beleive now-- just wait! You will before it's over. Remember 911, earthquakes, mudslides, and tsunami's are just the beginning of the birth pains to occur. We must pray while it is yet day, because tommorrow may be too late. God bless Daylan Sanders and the children and His mercy on us all.
