U.S. Border Patrol Agent Charged With Smuggling Pot

A U.S. Border Patrol Agent appeared in federal court yesterday charged with smuggling 750 pounds of marijuana across the border. The cops caught the agent after a high-speed chase. Pretty ballsy, he was even using an official Border Patrol vehicle. He also had a non-documented immigrant with him.

FBI agents began watching Higareda after learning of a supposed plan to move a giant drug stash over the border from Mexico to a house in Calexico, California using a marked U.S. Border Patrol car, the complaint said. Agents said they watched Higareda meet with another driver at a customs checkpoint, then chased him "at high speeds" about 20 miles to Holtville, California.

    Ah, come on, if you find them in a fleeing car with 750 lbs of pot I think you can break down and call them an illegal alien. -C

    Is "illegal alien" politically incorrect? It makes perfect sense to me: illegal alien (going by the first definition of each word)

    Ahh, another one of them 'crack' border guards I been readin' about. non-documented immigrant, are they sure it wasn't Cheech? I don't even know why this made the news, seems like he was just having a NORML day. Thanks, I'll be here all week, try the falafels!

    "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?" - Who shall police the police? More police? Some time ago, on MTV, Serena Altschul spent some time with the Border Patrol interdiction teams. When they found some poorly disguised pot in a van, the BP agent with her gave the usual "Another load of drugs kept off the streets, keeping folks safe" line. While cocaine and heroin, far more damaging to life and limb and much harder to detect, no doubt was passing through the portals by the hundreds if not thousands of pounds that very same day...with uniformed officer's help. You have to wonder just how many other law enforcement officers have succumbed to the siren song of corruption our ineffectual drug laws create. Given the past attempt at the prohibition of another drug - alcohol - at the very beginning of the program almost the entire Federal force had to be dismissed due to corruption. Nothing changes very much, only the size of the payoffs for those are bought and stay so.

    nemo beat me to it. The first thing I thought of was the excessive corruption the prohibition of alcohol wrought. Some govt's never learn. Once again, the cure is worse than the disease.
