United Auto, Steel Workers Endorse Dean for DNC Chair

Yesterday the race for DNC Chair was down to three and now, with the endorsement today of the United Auto Workers, it may be all but a fait accompli that Howard Dean will get the position.

UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said Dean, a former Vermont governor and presidential candidate, has proven that he can bring new people into the party and energize activists.

"Governor Dean understands quite clearly that the Democratic Party cannot afford to write off voters in any region of the country, and we're convinced that he will work tirelessly to make Democratic ideas and candidates winners in local, state and national elections," Gettelfinger said in a statement.

Add in the Dean endorsement today by the United Steelworkers Union.

Feb. 12 is election day....by the 447 members of the Democratic National Committee. I haven't seen a statement of withdrawal by Tim Roemer, but Burnt Orange Report says it has been told one is in the works.

Last night Donnie Fowler's website said Simon Rosenberg was out, but today that's been amended. (Without any correction note being posted.) Looks like Simon is still in, as is Fowler.

    Do we still build cars here? make steel here? You may as well call it united world auto and steel workers of the world. oh yes more pay is good more rights are good for the workers of the world but who will control this system and at what cost to people who do not have jobs?

    Yes and yes. I'm not sure how much the UAW's endorsement of Dean for the DNC chair will cost those who do not have jobs. There is no real cost, I don't think. And if Dean is elected DNC chair, and if he is able to invigorate the party and give the dems some balls (YEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!), then I think we could expect job growth. Ahhhhhhh, if....if........if......

    Dean will move the party to the left, for better or worse electorally. But if '06 confirms "worse" and Dean stays on for '08, Hillary may not be so inclined to go down w/the ship. Pure speculation, but I can certainly see her starting a 3rd party; by that point, it may well become her path of least resistance to the presidency. Pretty obvious that I consider a Dem split inevitable; the only real q is when.

    A.Y.M. Can you explain how Dean as DNC chair will create job growth?

    At this point people still don't understand that parties do not create anything, and job growth happens when you have something to sell in this world, at some point the boys in business will no longer need U.S. Banks and it will happen within the next 5 years and at that point Dean will be off doing something else and millions will be living under trees, just like Mexico. fighting in a nation civil\race war maybe where this non nation is going. Do You really want to see that? "oh yes" the "new people" he is talking about are from mexico and China, it will never work that way he thinks.

    More nonsense from ras. The Dems split? In what century. Dean is a CENTRIST. He was also RIGHT about Bush's lies to drive us into an illegal, immoral war. The Rs are going to split, the only question is WHEN? The $Rs for Bush and the regular Rs who actually believe in our economy, who actually believe in smaller gov't, who don't get along with the Bush thugs, they're the ones who will be splitting. Or, prosecutions in progress, the reverse. Dream on, ras. The crimes are on record, and one day the bell will ring.
