Florida Judge Won't Intervene in Terri Schiavo Case

The battle to save Terri Schiavo's life is all but over for her, her husband and parents. A Florida state court judge has rejected Jeb Bush's motion to intervene. Here's a not-surprising bit of information on the neurologist that said Terri could recover and whose opinion was included by Jeb Bush in his court petition:

Bush's challenge to the disagnosis on Terri Schiavo's brain damage is based on the opinion of a neurologist working for the state who observed Schiavo at her bedside but did not conduct an examination of her.

The neurologist, William Cheshire of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, is a bioethicist who is also an active member in Christian organizations, including two whose leaders have spoken out against the tube's removal.

Ronald Cranford of the University of Minnesota, a neurologist who was among those who made a previous diagnosis of Schiavo, said "there isn't a reputable, credible neurologist in the world who won't find her in a vegetative state."

Now the death watch will begin. I can't even fathom what the rest of the world, watching on tv, will make of the radical right carrying life-size crosses and engaging in other wierd activity outside the hospice. Actually, yes I can. They will say Amercians are behaving like lunatics. They'll be right.

After the death watch ends, the political fallout will begin. How many days until we can get back to real news?

You think our country is the only one with wackos? They'll know what they're seeing. They just may not be able to believe how many we have here. Too much manure around, providing the fertilizer for them to grow...

Anyone who thinks it ends now is a bloody fool. Oh, the Schiavo battle may be over (although I suppose Jeb is stupid enough to try a kidnapping; I just dunno if his advisors are that dumb), but having once demonstrated that they can rip up any law they damn well please, it is only a matter of time until DeLay, Bush and company try again. And next time, they'll pick an issue that has been carefully poll-tested for wider support.

Pat Robertson just called Michael Schaivo a murdererCNN interview with the truly disgusting Candy Crowley --this is the kind of talk that gets abortion providers murdered. Crowley did nothing to dispute any of lies Robertson told he is a worthless tool

"How many days until we can get back to real news?" Depends on whether Bush faces more criticism or DeLay gets indicted.

I can't even fathom what the rest of the world, watching on tv, will make of the radical right carrying life-size crosses and engaging in other wierd activity outside the hospice. They'll think we're a nation dominated by religious fundamentalists, as described here: The Schiavo Case and the Islamization of the Republican Party, and they'll be right.

"Pat Robertson just called Michael Schaivo a murderer" Is that actionable slander?

Pat Robertson just called Michael Schaivo a murderer
Well why the hell doesn't Robertson just cure Terri? He doesn't even have to be there; just cure her over the television like all those other "cures."

Pat Robertson just called Michael Schaivo a murderer Watching this, and watching an interview with Pat Boone late last night, I couldn't help but be fascinated and horrified by the ease with which religious conservatives lie. Maybe I should have gotten used to it during the Presidential campaign...

Jeez, I would think they American Taliban would want her to die tomorrow so she can be resurrected on Easter. The Rapture index would explode!

I actually kind of dislike the general beating the protestors have gotten. I don't disagree with their tactics, and find them damned effective in making a point (the cups of water bit was political theater at its best). I disagree of course, with their goal, but I'm not going to sit here and call them wackos when I myself love good street theater, puppets, and other non-boring ways to engage in civic resistance. In fact, its the generally blase and boring political expression of many of the left (who decided to get "serious" after the 60's) that pisses the hell out of me. Wheres the creative mobilization of the left on issues near and dear to people?

These folks love to blame the Courts, the governor, everybody but.... God herself after all if he can help win a ball game why not do a little magic for Terry. Also, isn't it odd that God has not called upon His Money Changer Evangelical Faith HEALERS to save the day? I also wonder why their followers aren't begging or sending a few bucks so these miracle workers will insert their God given powers into TERRY and CURE HER? Hmmm I suspect, like Professional wrestling both Faith Healers and their followers really don't want to know what they really are, FRAUDS. Why isn't anyone questing GOD for not saving Terry? Frankly I think God has answered MY prayers to let terry have her wish fulfilled.

I keep hoping that someone on the receiving end of the wingnuts lying would turn around and sue for libel. Michael Schiavo may be the one.

Tell that a'hole Robertson to go buy some more racehorses.

    Government murder is just that.

I actually kind of dislike the general beating the protestors have gotten. Me too. I gather some of them tried to break into the hospital, which was both wrong and stupid (what were they planning to do, drown Terri Schiavo by pouring water she couldn't swallow down her throat?) but the ones just standing outside - well, why shouldn't they? Peaceful protest is everyone's right. I hope Michael Schiavo sues Pat Robertson. That trial should be interesting, to say the least.

Fear of death is so overwhelming in some people that they'd torture others rather than let them move into the next stage of existence peacefully. That's what's happening to Terri Schiavo. Poor woman. Her name is fitting (Schiavo means slave, and is properly pronounced skiavo). She is a slave to a nearly dead body. Her parents should release her and let her go to heaven.

Sailor - I don't know, but if the husband sues Robertson, a lot of new info will be made public.

This is utterly UNREAL! Terri has the right to live as does anyone! She is not in a comma laying there life less. She responds to her Family. What next a person who has a stroke and can't feed themselves so they let them die?... How Cruel! Animals at least are put to sleep humanely. What is happening to Terri is cruel and inhumane to say the least. I did not realize certain individuals are now legally allowed to play the role of God. There are some of us here in Canada who see this as a very cruel way to let a person die. Even prisoners on death row are allowed to die in a somewhat humane way. To Terri and her Family we all feel so much pain in our hearts for you all. Someone put a stop to this and allow Terri to live!

Looking through the scads of online opinions from both the left and the right have caused me to stop and think... If Schiavo's demise is to have ANY meaning at all, we need to keep the dialouge open and honest until we can ALL agree on these "Right To Die" issues. No more gray areas. No more guessing at how to proceed. No more 12 year olds being arrested in protests they don't understand. ...No more Terrys. - There was an argument the other day on our program made by a caller who opined that it's against the law to starve an animal to death, yet this woman meets the same fate. I responded with "Perhaps, if in retrospect we find that "the system" did, in fact, take the wrong choice, should we haul everyone involved with this case into court on some kind of murder charge?" The caller said "Yes... and they should all get the DEATH PENALTY!" ...HMMMmmmmm...

O mundo se espanta com tanta frieza e crueldade da corte americana e de seu ex-marido... Nossos sentimentos ŕ família...
