People for American Way has prepared concise statements as to why Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown should not be given lifetime appointments on the federal bench.

    Ah yes, PFAW, the same group that brought us that "snazzy" (not cheesy) tri-colored chart. Of course, PFAW 'forgot' to tell us that of the 13 justices listed; 12 were confirmed - and the remaining one didn't enjoy majority support. Now, I'm not saying I would "line my birdcage" with PFAW press releases (that type of comment might be troll-like), but I sure wouldn't give them any credit.

    I won't wade into all the gory details PFAW lays claim to, but I do find it interesting that they claim to speak for the mainstream of america when they themselves are so far outside it. If the record on Brown is as bad as they say it is, they should have no problem convincing enough Republicans to oppose her to ensure her defeat. That's a debate I'd like to see take place in the Senate, not on the airwaves or the internet.

    i had only just recently read of owen's and brown's judicial histories. pretty scary stuff. you know they're bad when albert gonzales, among others, accuses them of judicial activism. owen, especially, seems bent on writing her own laws, but smith isn't too far behind. that being the case, it seems that they should really be running for either the state legislature, or congress, where she can do exactly that. i think i now understand, in way i didn't quite appreciate before, why the republicans would want to do away with the filabuster: it's the only way possible to get these people confirmed, no way they could get 60 senators to vote for cloture. as far as racism is concerned, up until quite recently, i had no idea what ethnic group either of them belonged to, not that it would make much difference, i think they're interchangeable.
