Who Are the Suicide Bombers?

The Washington Post reports on the proliferation of Islamic militant websites that track suicide bombers. It finds that the suicide bombers are by and large foreigners....and Saudi.

Who are the suicide bombers of Iraq? By the radicals' account, they are an internationalist brigade of Arabs, with the largest share in the online lists from Saudi Arabia and a significant minority from other countries on Iraq's borders, such as Syria and Kuwait. The roster of the dead on just one extremist Web site reviewed by The Washington Post runs to nearly 250 names....

The Saudi Government says the numbers are inflated. Counterterrorism experts don't believe that's true.

Evan F. Kohlmann, a researcher who monitors Islamic extremist Web sites, has compiled a list of more than 235 names of Iraqi dead gleaned from the Internet since last summer, with more than 50 percent on his tally from Saudi Arabia as well.

Some of the Web postings also include phone numbers so fellow Islamists can call a dead fighter's family and congratulate them. Kohlmann called several of the numbers. "I have lists and lists of foreign fighters, and it's no joke. Their sons went and blew themselves up in Iraq," he said.

One thing seems clear - the websites are being used to lure suicide bombers. Crooks and Liars has a Frontline video that explains more.

Anybody have any idea as to why the insurgents would attack and kill US Marines in Iraq? Anyone? Maybe because the US military/gov has bombed the bejesus out of that country and they're not too happy about it? Coalition Provisional Authority regulations. Please read Order 81.

Let's not forget that former mini-dictator Bremer fired the entire Iraqi civil service - all 500,000 of them. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were a little pissed.

drronchee - Insurgents do not blow up car bombs killing innocent civilians. These people are (repeat after me) t e r r o r i s t s There now. That wasn't hard, was it?

No it wasn't hard PPJ...but could you admit that this influx of crazies into the fray is a direct result of our invasion/occupation of Iraq? I know you cannot!

PPJ- here it comes, are you ready? 'Terrorists' attack and besiege a fundamentalist group of religious zealots for some 50 plus days, after 'negotiating' with the religious zealots, then attack said group of religious zealots once again and burn their 'compound' to the ground. The names of those terrorist organizations? The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Bureau of Investigation The religious zealots? The Branch Davidians at Mount Carmel outside of Waco, Texas. That might be too difficult for you, PPJ, but that is just the way it goes. "'Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties.' - George 'Dubya' Bush Remember that one?

drronchee - If you believe the ATF and the FBI are terrorist organizations then you desperately need help. Now. Tell me again how Saddam was captured?? Ernesto - No, and you can't quantify that statement, either. The crazies you speak of existed before and after our invasion, and their jaunt into the killing fields of Iraq is actually to our benefit.

PPJ - When you subject people 24/7 of the screeching of rabbits dying, loud rock and roll music, mooning the inhabitants of Mt. Carmel from helicopters at window level and other such ridiculous nonsense, I am not the one who desperately needs help.

So we have been told...but when you think about it, I mean really think about it...how is this so?

Jim said: "Insurgents do not blow up car bombs killing innocent civilians. These people are ... terrorists" What about people who routinely drop 500 pound bombs on residential neighborhoods, and who have killed thousands of innocent civilians, Jim? Are they terrorists?
