This is pretty cool. The Reading, PA Eagle now publishes its editorials in blog format, complete with commenting ablilty. Today's entry is on the nuclear option compromise. [link via How Appealing.]

    I hope that idea catches on. I'd loooove to be able to comment to one of George Will, Peggy Noonan, or William F. Buckley's masterpieces.

    I think the idea of posting can be extended to a great deal. You all may or may not be aware, but there is a big problem with the cost of purchasing and publishing in scientific journals. It frequently costs hundreds of dollars to publish (giving up the copywrite) and hundreds to subscribe. Really, the point is to have a repository of peer reviewed information. My colleagues and I came up with a scheme that could accomplish this and more. Publish a non-reviewed article on the web, allow commenting by the scientific community (thereby allowing peer review), and also allow moding of comments by posters. If you don’t know what moding is take a look as slashdot. Simply, all registered commenters can add or subtract ‘priority’ to any comment and rank according to categories like interesting, funny, etc. Where there are a significant amount of comments for a single story this helps immensely to avoid garbage and chatter.

    Another example of the MSM being half a step behind...watched the CNN "Blog" show and it was as pathetic as John Steward called it...two talking heads sitting around a couple of Mac laptops reading other peoples' news aloud... Go Skippy the Bush Kangaroo!! And Blagh says to CNN and their "Blog" rip-off, "Fozad..." And get some new anchors...
