Hillary Raises $1 Mil in One Night in Hollywood

Hollywood loves Hillary Clinton. Wednesday night she appeared at a few fundraisers in L.A. and took in $1 million. Sen. Harry Reid appeared with her.

From a $1,000-per-person soiree at the home of Warner Bros. chief Alan Horn to a late-night Young Hollywood shindig co-hosted by such performers as Christina Aguilera, Scarlett Johansson and Jake Gyllenhaal, organizers of the Wednesday night events had to turn away aspiring guests.

One dinner at the home of radio syndication billionaire Norm Pattiz was expected to bring in $450,000 for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, organizers said. Clinton appeared at the event with Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.).

Thursday night, Hillary continued, with fundraisers in Sacramento and San Francisco.

Why isn't she with the country's other progressives at the Take Back America conference? Marc Cooper has a theory.

    It's going to take a lot more than the love of Hollywood to put Hillary in office, and the more Hollywood loves her, the more the rest of the country will hate her, as we saw happen all too clearly with the Kerry campaign. And honestly, if anyone thinks that after a hardcore rightwing Bush Administration, this country is just going to do a complete 180 and elect the first woman President, who also happens to be widely despised on the right as "Clinton's wife", and who seems to have no clear idea of which camp, right or left, to stand in, you've got to be kidding. To run Hillary in 08 would truly be the death knell of the Democratic party....but on the bright side, maybe the collapse of the current Dem party will make way for a REAL Dem party to emerge...one with some sorely needed backbone.

    As much as I like Clinton, I am deeply troubled by some of her recent votes. The votes pro Rice, and the vote to allow Owen to go to the floor, for example. So I will vote for her only if she receives the endorsement of the Working Families Party here in New York. And I will vote for her only by pulling the lever on the Working Families column. Fenria overestimates Hollywood's influence, pro and con. And Fenria misunderestimates Clinton. And Marc Cooper is exactly right.

    Tristero - The benefit that Hollywood brings to the Repubs is simple. They keep the base energized without the Repub candidate having to do anything.

    her goal is to get elected and ravings at a far left confab are unlikely to assist that cause?

    The only problem with Fenria's assertion that the death of the current Democratic party might pave the way for a real Democratic party to rise from the ashes, is that in the interim between flameout and rebirth the Republicans and their wingnut army would basically run amok unchecked. Of course, the current Dems seem to be doing little to stop them from running amok now, so maybe there'd be no real difference after all.

    hillary has been pick, to be the next president because she will play ball with the total dismanlting of the usa for the worlds oligarchies, she will run against some fool.

    Ahem, Hillary is raising funds for her Senate race -- not for the White House, R wet dreams about that aside. John Kerry is the head of the party, the just-elected (but defrauded) president, and the default, pre-approved candidate IF there is an election for president in 2008. Hillary Clinton may run, but if Kerry is in the race, she will bow out, just as Dean did, because party discipline is still the only way to maintain the party. Marc Cooper and A. Huffington are quite a bit too full of themselves. Huffington's run against Gray Davis, who was legally elected and not charged with any crime in office, was a real blackeye for her.

    As for 'guaranteeing a R victory,' yeah, so what? You folk have fixed the system and are gloating about it anyhow. Give us anything like a fair and legal election, and George Bush will be back to fixing lawnmowers for cash in Houston, and you know it.

    holy cow. You people are still convinced the election was rigged? Pretty hard to make a comeback if you don't even believe you're behind. Interesting how being dissociated from reality in one's political views actually leads to a handicap in terms of winning elections. I guess that's a nice bonus feature of democractic government.

    Write this down and remember where you heard it. Hillary would cheerfully cut Kerry's throat from ear to ear, as well as any other opponent. She will win the nomination, and she will run. She won't win because of her extremely high negatives unless the Repubs do something stupid, such as nominating Jeb. But it will be one helluva fight. She is tough, smart and always plays the long game.
