Here's to You, Mrs. Robinson: R.I.P.

Actress Anne Bancroft, best known to the world for her role as Mrs. Robinson in the 1967 classic film, The Graduate, has died at 73 of uterine cancer.

While her career included many other cinematic achievements, such as her portrayal of Helen Keller Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, it is the Graduate that made her a legend. She is survived by her husband, Mel Brooks.

Rest in Peace, Anne Bancroft.

    You will be missed Anne. You were a great talent. I always loved her work, especially the great (at least to me, because of memories associated with it) film she did with her husband: "To Be or not To Be".

    She and Mel always seemed like such an odd couple, I never got it ... until I saw "To be." One of my favorite roles was as the Queen in Antz. She was one of those folks who became an icon, literally. Whenever I see black stockings and a garter belt I always think of her ... momentarily till I get to the business at hand;-)

    Anne Bancroft was a great credit to the cinema. If the right-wing Republicans have their way, we won't ever get a chance to watch such craft.

    Anne Bancroft was wonderful, but she didn't play Helen Keller, she played the teacher.

    Thanks for the reminder, Rocker. I'd forgotten about Antz (one of the few Woody Allen flicks I can watch). It's a testament to a performer when they can do so much with only their voice. Anne, take a bow, wherever you are.

    (That is, she had the title role - she was the Miracle Worker.)

    Helen Keller's teacher was Annie Sullivan. And Anne Bancroft (with the "e" on Anne, TL) was indeed a great actress. My sympathies to Mel Brooks. [Thanks, I made the corrections.]

    Ms Bancroft, early middle-aged and in garters....uhmmm.... she was hot! Oh sorry about that... I loved her in "Prisoner of Second Avenue" the film with Jack Lemmon as her unemployed husband. I think Neil Simon wrote the play. She was the laid back wife brought to the breaking point by her self-pitying husband and wins the day...well...sort of. She was adept at both movies and theater and even did TV on occasion. A trouper of the highest order she was. Bless her. She will be dearly missed.

    A real class act. The Graduate 2001 M*A*S*H There were some great classics that came out around then.

    Anne Bancroft was a great American artist. We can remember her in the great works of art she left behind.

    If you just graduated from college and haven't seen The Graduate run don't walk to the video store and watch it. Ann is awesome and it is a timeless movie that will be relevant forever.

    One hell of an actress, no bout a doubt it. What teenage boy didn't daydream of being as lucky as Benjamin. One of the most memorable performances in film history.

    84 Charing Cross Road One of the most humane and sincere movies ever made. IMPOSSIBLE without her talents. R.I.P., Ms. Bancroft.

    I will miss her, sad world without her. I have the "I claudius", she did back about 20 years ago. I just put it on DVD From tape. I will always remember.
