Halliburton Gets Contract for New Guantanamo Jail

In the "you can't make this stuff up" department, via David Corn, Laura Rozen and Kevin Drum, we learn Halliburton just got a $30 million contract to build a new jail at Guantanamo. As Kevin says, no wonder Cheney is booking time on Larry King to sing Gitmo's praises.

In other news, the Wile E. Coyote administration has awarded Halliburton a $1.5 gazillion contract for a new defense system based on the elastic properties of rubber. White House Press Secretary E. Fudd indignantly denied suggestions that the recent invasion of Malaysia was in any way related to the fact that the country is the largest source of rubber in the world.

Al - For sarcasm to be effective, you need to have a fair degree of accuracy. e.g. The availablity of large amounts of rubber hasn't really been critical since WWII. Now you may claim that this is unimportant, because it wasn't the main thrust of your point. But if I can't trust your accuracy on one subject, what do you really know about doing busing business with the US government, defense industries, etc. I mean besides the fact you dislike it very, very much.

PPJ, I should have realized you probably never watched a Roadrunner cartoon.

Al - Come on Al. You can do better than that. Watched? Heck, I knew Wile E., and you are no Wile E.

Read between the lines Jim. It is like giving chiquita contracts while we invade central america. Do you have to get a lobotomy before you join the repubs or what?

HOW many times has this company's overcharging been questioned and/or fined? And we keep dealing with them because they are the ONLY company that can do the job? Wow, much to the right's chagrin, I guess the American free market must not be able to respond and fill this vital need in a time of war; if the ONLY company that can do this job is a proven fraud-machine.

V2 - No, what it is, is a halfway attempt to be sarcastic/cute. And I confess that I could not resist the urge to point out something to dear Al. As for your inane question I'll just note, again, that I have no idea of the initation rites to become a Repub, since I am not one. I do, however and after observing the activities of the far Left, think that you folks must swear an oath to hate everything that has to with national defense, and promise to never use common sense when talking about it. Dadler - I would guess they were the only company that was qualified, and who bid. Running a company to do offshore military type construction is not the same as Bill's and Tom's Home Improvement, Yard Cleaning and Babysittng Service.

Sure, Jim, you aren't a republican. Har, har, har. The far Left, you folks? Which folks are that? I know some Leftists, but you are just blowing wind if you are referring to the Dems here. We just don't like illegal governments established by vote-fraud and maintained by threats, anthrax, outed loyal spies, wars for profit, massive under-the-table corruption, and paid shills on liberal websites. That has nothing to do with being opposed to national defense -- it IS national defense.

Jim, Really? It's not like Tom and Dick's Housecleaning service? Wow, thanks for correcting my mistaken thinking. Now, address my main point. First, what on earth could they be doing that other humans couldn't? Tell me, what? They're not fighting the war, they're delivering stuff and serving overpriced, underflavored food. And do you REALLY think they're isn't another group of people, institution, company, that could do as good a job if not better without the graft and corruption? What little faith in American ingenuity you have.
