Scott McClellan in today's press conference finally addressed Karl Rove and the leak controversy:

"Any individual who works here at the White House has the confidence of the president. They wouldn't be working here at the White House if they didn't have the president's confidence," McClellan said.

    Well that seals it. If Rove no longer has Bush's confidence then he must be fired. If he does, then Bush either ordered or approved of what he did.

    Say hello to Stonewall McClellan. Can they really get away with this? We don't yet know exactly how serious Fitzgerald is.

    Dana Milbank of the Washington Post was online today, taking questions from callers. Here are some excerpts. They aren't cheering. The statute about the leaking of classified information is very specific, and it has been said from the very start that it would be extremely difficult to find somebody in violation of it. Clearly the White House is setting up a defense in which Rove et al are vindicated because they assume Fitzgerald will find no evidence that a crime was committed. Whether that washes with the public is different matter. ... Certainly the White House is calculating that the story will blow over. And they may be right. The investigation could go on for some time in secret, with no new revelations. With the president's party in control on the Hill, hearings are unlikely. ... My predictions are often comically off, but here goes: This is Karl Rove's town, and the rest of us -- President Bush included -- are just living in it.

    Wow. This is like waving a red flag to a bull. The Dems _have_ to keep pushing this now, because Bush (via Scottie) just welded himself to Rove's boat anchor. If Rove actually gets frog-marched, even if it's just for perjury, well... let's just say that Congress whipped out impeachment hearings on Clinton for less...

    Well, of course birds of a feather flock together. I mean really, why wouldn't a pack of lying scoundrels have each other's backs when it's mutually beneficial to do so?

    In order to understand Bush, you need to realize that he usually means the opposite of what he is saying. For example, that Saddam had WMD, the link to Al Queda and 9/11, etc. So when the Bush administration says "Any individual who works here at the White House has the confidence of the president" what that means is that Rove better start packing.
