Abu Ghraib Photos and Videos to be Released Friday

Via Up Against the Law:

As part of the ongoing FOIA litigation on behalf of the ACLU and the Center for Constitutional Rights, a whole slew of the unreleased photographs and videos from Abu Ghraib are set to be released on Friday. These are the photographs and videos that were shown to the closed session of Congress, which reportedly include videos and photographs of the rape of detainees, including the rape of a male minor being held at the facility.

And the S&M world awaits with baited breath....as well as certain centers of the Leftist fever swamps. Revel in it and throw it about as an 'I told you so' but where does it get you in the end? Does the American public care? I doubt it.

Many people will see very little of it because of the graphic nature. Sanitized as much as possible. Mainstream media will never show any more than glimpses, everyone will gasp, then return to Fear Factor. No one will remember that it is all fallout from a manufactured war. Hopefully, I am completely wrong.

Jimcee, If the public doesn't care that Saddam's rape rooms have turned into American rape rooms, I'll seriously consider eating a bottle of sleeping pills. You can blame the "leftist fever swamp" for the pictures but the fact is that they reflect reality in Iraq. Sticking your head in the sand doesn't change that. The Iraqis already know what's happening in Abu Ghraib, and it's not because of the ACLU, for christ's sake. So you guys can have a big circle jerk about how everything's fine over there as long as the traitorous liberal fifth column stays in the fever swamp and doesn't poison the minds of True Americans. Like some kind of screwed up quantum physics; nothing happens in Iraq unless it is reported upon, and then it's the fault of "the left". It'll be real smooth with all the blood on your hands.

Since they are being provided to the ACLU and CCR through an FOIA lawsuit, I would hope that we'll all be able to download them from their sites.

Unfortunately the right wingnut machine will spin this as another form of liberal anti America propaganda against our troops. Pathetic but true. You see just below the surface, in their wingnut minds, they realy think these people deserved being tortured.

I doubt that, but only reasonable people will see through it.

Sure, after they're run through Adobe Photoshop to make them more sensational.

If it isn't verified, then why does it seem likely?

[disclaimer: saddam was a bad, bad man] Iraq has more civilian deaths/day than happened under the previous regime. Iraq has less infrastructure than they had under saddam. (e.g. sewage disposal, electric generation, open schools, women's rights, border security ... etc.) Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Since we illegally invaded (i.e. w/o UN authorization), we have created a training ground and recruitment center for terrorists. A large part of that terrorist recruitment is because the us has tortured, raped, and murdered iraqis. None of the above causes can be attributed to what some so quaintly call the 'left.'

...vengeance and revenge... Welcome to the new "normal." Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have absolute power over the detainees in Guantanamo in a corrupt relationship that sacrifices the humanity, compassion and grace of the guards, their commanders... and their commander-in-chief (and the rest his toadies). Ralphie was right: "You're either a bully, a toady, or one of the hapless rabble of victims." So was Frank Zappa: "Politics is just like high school except with more money and guns."

It's likely because on June 2 the ACLU said it would be about six weeks before they were released.

Patrick re: "Sure, after they're run through Adobe Photoshop to make them more sensational." If the pictures and videos are anything like what we have already seen, then I don't think there is a need to "make them more sensational." Please note that these photos and videos were taken by the soldiers themselves. That is what makes them so disturbing and so powerful.

if it is true it will be a grim reminder of what Rove and Bush's lying to us brought this country to .... the kinds of things that have been done during this war, in our names, are a direct result of the power grabbing lying that this administration does on almost every subject ... they believed that no one would call them on the lying that led to the war .... they believed that no one would care what they did to prisoners during the war ... let's make sure that they find out how wrong they were ...

The Times of London is a surprisingly centrist newspaper considering it's ownership but the article was depressing but to me for different reasons than for you. Sure I would love to have the EU be on the US side in the WOT but it just isn't going to happen anytime soon. Quite frankly Europeans didn't really like US when I travelled there in the mid '70's and early '80's. Evenually when the native European population finally realizes that by laying down in the fetal position and hoping the violence will stop and it doesn't then they will become part of the WOT. In the meantime Europe still hasn't lost the post-war mendacity that has made it act as a jealous nephew has to a rich uncle who has bailed his ass out of trouble but who won't take the nephew's advice. There is a certain bitterness there. In otherwords Europe has problems of their own right now, just ask Theo Van Gogh....oh wait nevermind. Give them time because the terror warriors could make use of a good baguette but otherwise as long as the Brits are with US the rest of Europe can go bugger themselves.

"Quite frankly Europeans didn't really like US when I travelled there in the mid '70's and early '80's." Forget it jimcee, most here don't and won't accept the truth. Interesting that, unlike the US, most of the rest of the world has the confidence to not give a flying f*ck what the citizens of another country feel about them.

Frank Zappa: "Politics is just like high school except with more money and guns."
Indeed, but the late Dr. said it best: "America... just a nation of two hundred million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns and no qualms about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable." ~Hunter S. Thompson

Pathetic but true. You see just below the surface, in their wingnut minds, they realy think these people deserved being tortured.

flag.... in their wingnut minds, they realy think these people deserved being tortured. Hey... I have to hear loud rap music all the time...why shouldn't they?

Posted by sarcastic unnamed one: "Quite frankly Europeans didn't really like US when I travelled there in the mid '70's and early '80's." Thanks for taking the survey. Regrettably, your experience was at the edge of the bell-curve. I myself travelled to Europe on several occasions over those years, and was treated like a great guy from a wonderful country that has problems like the rest of the world, mostly due to racist holdovers like you and BB.

PIL, That was not my quote. Thanks for playing.

Over to you, jimcee. Sorry for the misattribution, SUO. We can't really be SURE you didn't write that, so please submit your thumb and index fingerprints, a blood sample, and photographs of any physical deformities to Homeland Security. Since you have nothing to hide, we're sure you won't mind also including any and all correspondence with jimcee and your tax returns and library borrowing records. Can't be too safe!

Let the record show that after 37 kazillion and 2 posts, PIL has, for the first time, not included some form of the word "racist" in a comment. You're a sad piece of work PIL.

It wasn't your quote, except on review, you posted: "Forget it jimcee, most here don't and won't accept the truth." So you signed it, even if you didn't type it originally. And you're just as wrong. (racist)
