Schapelle Corby: Dealer Would Claim Pot if Immunized

Time is running out for Schapelle Corby. She has until August 3 to produce a witness who can prove she was framed and that the 4 kilos of pot for which she was sentenced to 20 years in an Indonesian prison were planted.

A Sydney drug dealer is ready to testify that the drugs planted in her luggage were meant for him. But, he will only testify if Australian prosecutors give him immunity and promise he won't be extradited to Bali.

The man, understood to be from Sydney, called the legal team late last week to proffer that the 4.1kg of marijuana in Corby's boogie board bag was actually being sent to him from Queensland and that he would testify to this effect.

If his claims are genuine, his evidence could attest to what Ms Corby has said all along – that she is the innocent victim of an interstate drug ring and that her bag was used unknowingly as a way of sending the marijuana interstate.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, Ron Vigenser, the man identified as the pot owner by prisoner John Ford at Corby's trial, claims to have been beaten with a piece of wood and threatened that he better testify for Schapelle.

I've been following this case with a lot of interest. This latest revelation about the Sydney drug dealer makes me wonder whether: a) he really did do it and risks becoming a nationally recognized scoundrel or b) whether this is one of the finest examples gallantry I've seen in many years. Thanks for posting this.

Lab, Exactly. I mean if there was no threat of punishment, then why would Bali even consider his testimony. It's only reliable if it's against their penal interests. If there's no penalty, it's not reliable. IMO.

If his requests are not met and he lets her take the fall he WILL be the soundrel of the century. He's in too far already.

Che, Interesting point, but if he comes out later and says he was forced into a false confession, what then? I mean we've heard tons of stories here of false confessions and the reasons for them. IMO, you're never in too far unless your in....Jail.
