Christopher Walken Announces Run for President

Actor Christopher Walken is running for President in 2008.

"Our great country is in a terrible downward spiral. We're outsourcing jobs, bankrupting social security, and losing lives at war. We need to focus on what's important-- paying attention to our children, our citizens, our future. We need to think about improving our failing educational system, making better use of our resources, and helping to promote a stable, safe, and tolerant global society. It's time to be smart about our politics. It's time to get America back on track."

Here's the press release, his bio and his platform.

If no other candidate will lead on these issues, then Christopher Walken has my vote.

Oh, man, that is so excellent. I'm imagining the meeting between Christopher Walken and Kim Jong Il right now, and it would be a moment for the ages. Or Christopher Walken meeting with Vladimir Putin-- whoa.

"True Romance" or "King of New York" One showing for Saddam and he would have surrendered.

An ACTOR for president? What on earth!?!?! Who ever heard of sucha thing!?!?! More power to him! Already he's got my vote, if a neo-con actor can singlehandedly win the cold-war, imagine what good can come of this one!

America loved having a crappy actor as president. Loved him so much, they forgave all of his screw ups, and credited him for things that he did not do. We even forgave his criminal conduct. Imagine having a good actor for prez!

he sees that all walks of life are becoming disgruntled and apathetic towards the American government, and feels a duty, as a child of the American public, to restore the peace, prosperity, and greatness of the United States.
Not to mention some good press for his career. Which, I guess is great. I didn't know who he was, but hey, I don't pay much attention to actors, nor do I pay much money to them, either. Oh well. Good Sunday AM giggle.

Anyone ever see "The Dead Zone?" It's one of my favorite movies! Go Christopher Walken!! I didn't catch whether he was a Republican or Democrat but I assume the latter.

The Deer Hunter (1978) about Vietnam? What a great movie.

Now, more active than ever, Christopher Walken has realized that the state of his country is in disarray, and the politicians in charge care less for the citizens they serve and more about fattening their resumes and campaign chests. Having residences both in rural Connecticut and upper-west Manhattan, he sees that all walks of life are becoming disgruntled and apathetic towards the American government, and feels a duty, as a child of the American public, to restore the peace, prosperity, and greatness of the United States.
Erm... just saw him in The Wedding Crashers which I really enjoyed and thought he did a great job in... but honestly, I read that paragraph above over and over and was flummoxed. "A child of the American public"? Having homes in rural Connecticut and the Upper West Side of Manhattan gave him deep insight into "all walks of life"? And there's that "I'm not a politician" stuff. (Worked great for Arnold! Well, not so much, it's turning out.) Still, I'd lurve to see a Walken/Cheney debate in 2008. That would be awesome.

talkleft, i can't believe you would have swallowed this for one millisecond! even without following techoligist's logic, which is impeccable, gut feelings alone would tell everyone that if something as unsubstantial and inconsequential as an actor announcing his presidential candidacy had really happened, the press would be all over it like flies on natalie holloway! but, being a hit and run blogger myself, i totally understand how we grab an interesting item, blog about it, then have to go back 2 hours later when someone points out, "er, skippy, you didn't actually read that item you posted, did you?" and i have to say, "addendum: never mind." happens to me all the time. i must admit, tho, walken as president has a certain appeal.

IS WALKEN'S CANDIDACY A HOAX? You may want to check out this rumor (from WorldNet Daily, found via a google news search) that Walken's candidacy could an elaborate hoax "... perpetrated by members of the General Mayhem forums, one of the largest message boards on the Internet."

Skippy, nicely said. The funny part is I did read it - twice - and I believed it. Wishful thinking, I guess.

Does anybody know of any other actors have run for public office and what their political persuasion was? The first that comes to mind is Sonny Bono and I believe he was Republican. Of course there is The Boobengrabber whom I supported at first because I thought that he would be different and I hated Davis so much, only to find out he is just like most of the other politicians. I cant f

Looks like a joke, but most of us voted for a joke last time (Bush OR Kerry). If I'm wrong and it's legit, he's got my vote locked up. I'd settle for anything besides a Republican or Democrat. What's Jesse the Body been up to?

Chupetin - Good question. Actually it wasm't until the latter part of the 20th century that thespians were taken seriously.

“Does anybody know of any other actors have run for public office and what their political persuasion was?”
You know, the libertarians are always bugging folks like Drew Carey or Clint Eastwood to run for office. But why would they; politics is slightly less respectable than p0rn.
“His platform is another regurgitation of the same old crap.”
So I guess it’s no too surprising it’s a hoax; just too bad the other folks pushing this crap aren’t as well.

Amen to that. Good, decent people simply don't get into politics. It's a filthy business where good guys finish last, or get turned to the dark side. I fear we are stuck voting the lesser of two bad guys for the foreseeable future.
