ACLU Hearing 3pm ET Over Abu Ghraib Photos

The ACLU reports:

The American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Civil Liberties Union will again appear before a federal judge Tuesday, August 30, to seek the release of Defense Department photographs and videotapes depicting the abuse of prisoners held by the United States at Abu Ghraib.

The ACLU today also released previously redacted government documents, including declarations by General Richard Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Ronald Schlicher, former Deputy Assistant Secretary and Coordinator for Iraq in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs of the Department of State, in which they argue that the photographs and videos should not be made public. General Myers also argues that "the democratic idea of public accountability... is misunderstood in other parts of the world."

Released documents are available here.

The relentless damage control seems to be non stop with these guys. Besides fixing evidence thet lead us to war, the refusal to release the Abu Ghraib torture pics, and the total mismanagement and graft the US occupiers have incured, now once again they have been bribing officials to stay in the puppet government and sign off on the constitutional. Perhaps those Sunnis drafters were not only risking their lives for honorable reasons. I guess that is how things are done in Chimpy's America. from Juan Cole:
Al-Watan (Riyadh) [Arabic link] reports that one Sunni member of the parliamentary drafting committee told it that Washington at one point promised $5 million apiece to the Sunnis on the committee if they would sign off on the constitution. Sy Hersh has also alleged bribery.

I guess by "other parts" he means "outside the Pentagon". Does anyone else envision Colonel Klink saying this, by the way?

The fine folks at Treasuy Transfer Services thank you for your patience. The long lines of trucks leaving the area around Louisville, Kentucky are a temporary inconvenience. Please do not pay any attention.
