Bush Cuts Vacation to Return to D.C.

President Bush is cutting his vacation short by two days to monitor the hurricane damage...from Washington. Americablog says it's too little too late, but here's the real complaint.

Yeah, I thought it to be slightly tasteless how the Hurricane speech kinda turned into the same damn speech he's given every time for the past 3 years. Remember when he suckered the media 3 times into covering his "major policy announcements" which turned into... blah blah Iraq? Can we get a shepherd's crook for this idiot already?

Since his vacation time seems more important to him than his job we should give him the rest he rightfully deserves: impeach the bastard.

My chairitable nature compels me to commend his right action whenever it is taken. The President decides it's time to stop "clearing brush" and get back to work? I'm for it.

QIB-You are a good soul and your kind hearted compassion is a welcome example, I can not go there nonetheless. As usual Bush spins for the PR value but his actions are more revealing. If you read the america blog link it turns out that GW went West to Stump, and has not gone to NO. He talked for two minutes about NO and then went back to talk about WWII and how it is like the Iraq war. After 9/11 he initially snubbed NYC; he did come finally after several days. The fact that NYC and NO vote democrat shows Bush is not the Uniter he claimed to be in his inagural speech. The extent of his ability to unite is reflected by his infamous statement "you are either with us or agin' us", it says it all.

They were hoping for another terrorist attack, but they will gladly take a biblical flood to get out of the summer doldrums. Now he finally gets a chance to look like he cares about people, instead of hiding out at his Hollywood ranch set from the relatives of the war deceased.

Bush cut the funding to hold back the levee. A hurricane of this level was foreseeable (that's why Louisiana had its Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project to begin with). Bush gambled with the lives of New Orleanders and the surrounding region and he lost. This should make you very angry. http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/attytood/archives/002331.html

Whether Bush was actually cutting his "vacation" short is a deep philosophical question. On the one hand, we have:
President Bush is cutting his vacation short by two days.
And on the other hand, we have:
White House spokesman David Almacy said that...the reason that Bush is in Crawford, Texas, is due to the renovation of the West Wing of the White House. "He's operating on a full schedule; he's just doing it from the ranch instead of from the White House,' Almacy said. "The only week he had officially off was this last week.'
So, which is it? We'll never know. What we can say is that the hurricane Katrina disaster has slowly made its way through Bush's central nervous system, and has reached, or has nearly reached the brain. Perhaps it will enter his consciousness also, although it is too early to tell.

levees - One last time. Let me explain how the budget is put together. Bush's various people put together a budget. Then Congress changes/approves/dickers/raises/lowers. I remember hearing nothing from the LA congressional delegation. BTW - Congress cut more than Bush wanted. So, I guess after you are done talking nonsense about Bush, you can start over at the House of Reps.

Jim: "BTW - Congress cut more than Bush wanted. So, I guess after you are done talking nonsense about Bush, you can start over at the House of Reps." Bush couldn't get what he wanted FROM HIS OWN CONGRESS? Hilarious, Jim. What a useless dude he truly is. He's the tool of the rich interests he represents, and unless there are no-bid contracts going to THEIR companies, the people of the South can go hang. And those Representatives are going have QUITE a hotfoot by September, with all the disaster and all. And if Bush doesn't open the pork floodgates a bit wider, they will be standing like poor Tony Blair, with his political pockets hanging out. Bush has now doubly shafted the people of the South who supported him. He just loves shafting people when they least expect it. He's a rapist.

And then he shows up with his guitar, and bells on his feet. The racists at his fundraiser LOVED that one almost as much as the video he took of when he pushed the people of Atlanta out of their memorial service for Martin Luther King Jr., BEHIND A WALL OF BUSES. The yucks echoed for ten minutes. The South has been ENRON-ed. Thanks, George!

Excuse me, but while NO and large areas of the south coast were being destroyed, Our Pet Chimp was busy raising mucho dinero at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego today, along with a speech at the North Island Naval Air Station. He was also in the LA area stumping to some marks about SS. Now he's decided to use it as an excuse to get out of Crawford and that woman who's kid was killed in Iraq and is all pissed off at him. There were demos at every one of them.

That anonymous post above was me. Long day. But the sign in is different. I didn't have to go through the usual sign in ritual, which lately can involve passwords, questions, incantations... WTF?

What debt? Economy roaring. Unemployment down. So you're spending an extra 10 bucks a week on gas - BFD. Clinton refused to respond to attack on the towers, the embassies, and the USS Cole - Bush is engaging the "freedom fighters" in Iraq, as Cindy Sheehan called them. Cindy Sheehan melting down - blames Bush for hurricane. Dems roar in chatrooms; meanwhile GOP controls House, Senate, White House, and Supreme Court.

Bush never was on vacation, what a tricky devil, he outsmarted us.
Q Would you say the President goes back to Washington well rested? MR. McCLELLAN: Well, as you all know, this has been, as usual, a fairly busy month. There are a lot of important priorities going on, and we -- here in Crawford, we have the Western White House. I mean, the White House just picks up and moves with the President. And he has kept a pretty busy schedule this month, and he has also remained focused on a number of important priorities for the nation. Q Does he need a vacation? MR. McCLELLAN: I think those of you who travel with the President recognize that this is not what you would call a vacation. This is the President's home, he always enjoys coming here. But when you're President, you're President 24/7. And he always enjoys returning to Texas, he always enjoys getting out and traveling around the country and hearing from people out in the heartland, and what's on their minds.
Scottie are you sure he is not on vacation?
As he told a $1,000-a-plate crowd at a fund-raiser in June, Washington, D.C., is a great place to work, but Texas is a great place to relax." Bush told some reporters, "I'm working on a lot of issues, national security matters.'' Then, Bush rode off to hit the links, before dealing with a stubborn landscaping issue by clearing some brush on his property. "One of the interesting things to do is drink coffee and watch Barney chase armadillos," he told reporters on a tour of the ranch later in his vacation. "The armadillos are out, and they love to root in our flower bed. It's good that Barney routs them out of their rooting.'' On August 25, still on the ranch, Bush discussed with reporters the differences between his two dogs. "Spot's a good runner. You know, Barney-terriers are bred to go into holes and pull out varmint. And Spotty chases birds. Spotty's a great water dog. I'll go fly-fishing this afternoon on my lake."
