Anderson Cooper Sees Body Eaten by Rats

Anderson Cooper was so great just now on CNN. He laced into Sen. Mary Landrieu saying people who have witnessed the devastation don't want to hear politicans congratulating other politicians for how they've responded.

He was yelling, basically, "Don't you get it yet?" He mentioned seeing a woman's body on the ground being eaten by rats. Landrieu told Anderson she understood what he was saying and then thanked the President again.

Update: Crooks and Liars has the video, you have to watch this, it's one of few truly raw moments on television. I've always liked Anderson Cooper, but he absolutely shines tonight.

Update: Think Progess has the transcript.

Cooper is a real light on all this sorrow and madness.

Maybe you haven't worked in an organization where cooperation is valuable. Ask yourself - say the senator agreed with Cooper, and spent the interview blaming the administration for this, that, and the other thing. Now, posit that it's two years later, and the senator wants something that requires the help of other senators and the president. Think they are going to be bending over backwards to help? It's not unlike a corporate situation, where you think that the (insert misbehaving group here) group has been a problem. Say you decide to publicly berate said group. You think that's going to gain you allies, or get you a label that says "loose cannon"?

James Robertson, are you serious!? HER FIRST PRIORITY SHOULD BE SAVING LIVES, NOT ENSURING POLITICAL EASE IN HER CAREER!

James Robertson you sound just like Bush. Why worry about today's problem when we should worry about long term ramifications? People are dying and they are now dying because of the disaster Katrina brought. That disaster is named Bush. Our leader once again fell asleep at the helm and ignored the warnings of an upcoming catastrophic event just to turn around and respond once it is to late. August - Vacation on the Ranch - Warnings of something dangerous coming to America - Delayed response once it all does happen. It is just like 2001 all over again. The only exception is that this catastrophe was caused by mother nature originally and made worse by our commander in grief. Jamie http://intoxination.blogspot.com

I think maybe a more accurate statement is: maybe you have never worked in the Bush regime. Think about all of the firings and resignations just because someone actually presented an objectively true rendition of a situation, albeit very respectfully, and clearly in the interest of a better America. Gone...all gone. Bushies can't handle the truth.

Maybe that's where the rest of us, who are not as beholden to the powers that be in D.C. come in. But answer me this. There is, indeed, a time for cooperation. But there is also a time to speak truth to power. Else, what are our voices for?

James, you're floridly insane. The only "cooperation" I see amounts to a tacit agreement to delay transporation and aid for those stranded (largely the poor and the inform) until as many people as possible die. Europe must be having a ball over this.

Damned typos! The only "cooperation" I see amounts to a tacit agreement to delay transportation and aid for those stranded (largely the poor and the infirm) until as many people as possible die. I can imagine the European reaction: this is what happens when you abandon socialism.

James, might you be any relation to Pat, because that was one of the most loony things I think I have ever been witness to. Do you really think this is about sucking up to your boss so he will throw you some scraps from the table? Becasue you see Mary Landrieu isn't beholden to Dumbya, she is beholden to her real boss, and that just happens to be the citizenry of the state of Louisiana. The wingnuts have truly lost there grip on reality when it is more important to score brownie points with a frat boy coke head than to save lives. James Robertson and all those lunatics out there that think they are "conservatives" make me F$#@*NG SICK!

Et al – You guys are just so full of BS. Where, oh where, do I begin? IntoxiNation - writes:
made worse by our commander in grief.
The problem now is all the people who didn’t leave, made much worse by criminals who are shooting at the rescue folks. Bush had nothing to do with any of that. Would you have preferred he dispatched the National Guard to make them leave? I can just hear it now. Gasp, gasp!!! He is destroying our civil liberties! BTW – You name yourself well. Shortwave writes ….
until as many people as possible die.
Yours is not the most ridiculous statement I have read today, but it is in the top five. Hazelip – It isn’t political ease, it is trying to get people, who don’t have to, do something for you. And yes, I know it feels just so golly gee whiz good to pee all over someone’s shoes, but the fact is a smile and thank you goes a long, long way. As for Cooper Anderson, if he can’t stand the heat he should get out of the kitchen. I wonder if tried to run the rats off, or just made sure they got pictures? Kind of a Peter Arnett two days later.

PPJ, you are a disgrace to America and humanity in general. You would really blame poor people for not having the means to escape from the path of Katrina and then chastise people for calling our leaders on their horrible response time and failure to adequately prepare for just such a tragedy as this one? You really are a nutter. You had better hope there isn't a God, PPJ. Because if there is then you might just have to account for not heeding the saying about doing good unto the lowliest so you do unto Him. P.S. The looters are very convenient for closet racists like you to use as a scapegoat for tacitly approving of the suffering of the majority of the poor and/or black folks who couldn't get out of New Orleans. And you dare call yourself an American? Please.

PPJ believes that the poor and infirm had the means to evaculate:
The problem now is all the people who didn’t leave
Yup, it's their fault. Yours IS among the four most fatuous statements I've heard today.

Make that "As you do unto the lowliest of your brethren so you do unto me". Catholic school was good for something.

CNN could redeem itself if it shows more like this. They could do well by doing good. I saw Cooper today and he could be the one to make us feel some national shame at how these people have been treated, how slow the response has been.

I have said it before. Jeralyn needs to be open to the proposition of a fundraiser to buy PPJ off this forum, or open the forum to a more "earthy" format that would banish the likes of the oh so genteel, though obviously less than compassionate, PPJ. Face it, PPJ couldn't hang without Jeralyn's indulgence. And, BTW, your sorry ass ain't worth the attention.

DonS and ShemBuck, having PPJ fend for himself in the blogosphere would be poetic justice, but then, what would the poor guy have to live for, if not whinging in these forums? Where else can he go to insist, out of the right side of his mouth, that it was the fault of the poor and infirm that they didn't leave when they were told (that goes double for the ones on life support), and then insist, out of the left side of his mouth, that leaving them to fend for themselves isn't anyone's intention.

How can I get there to drive one of those f***ing buses in that the other cowards are too scared to drive? This is just sick. Cooper is finally demonstrating (along with Cafferty) what the media SHOULD be doing. Landreiu should be on the first bus in there. But her makeup looked great. Where are the guard troops to escort these buses that are sitting on the outskirts of NO?

Within 12 hours of Andrew, out of town cops and firefighters showed up. Within 24 hours, the Nat'l Guard had pretty much stopped looting and the Rd Cross was feeding people. Within about 48 hours, we had FEMA. Within 72 hours, the Guard had housing set up. What a difference, and just not because of the flooding. BTW- ask the Dutch about how to prevent flooding. They smoke pot, but they're not stupid.

My husband is there right now for FEMA and I am watching the news constantly. What shocks me is that when they interviewed people who were wanting to tell people that they were alive and well, they were ALL white. What would the difference have been if this hurricane would have hit a wealthy, white area? It seems to me that we are once again failing a community that does consist of tax-paying citizens. Where is the help? Why aren't there hundreds of Red Cross tents? Where is our leadership? Do our politicians not watch the desperation, suffering and death on the news? I am more sick about the lack of response and the number of people who will die needlessly because we failed to respond. Is this a matter of class? Race? Do we really care about our poor?
