Lyrics to Rolling Stones' New Song "Sweet Neo Con"

posted by Last Night in Little Rock

Below are the lyrics to "Sweet Neo Con" by Mick Jagger on the just released "Bigger Bang" CD and previously referred to here:

Sweet Neo Con

You ride around your white castle,
On your little white horse
You lie to your people,
and blame it on your war of course
You call yourself a Christian,
I call you a hypocrite
You call yourself a patriot,
well I think you're full of sh*t

Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time for the atom bomb?
You parade around in costume,
Expecting to be believed
But as the body bags stack up,
We believe we've been deceived
The horror you've unleashed,
Will backfire with more grief
When will you ever learn,
Sweet Neo Con,
as the world burns?

Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time for the atom bomb?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time to drop the bomb?

How come you're so wrong?
My sweet neo-con,
where's the money gone,
in the Pentagon.
It's liberty for all,
democracy's our style,
unless you are against us,
then it's prison without trial.

How ironic that it came out this week in conjunction with the Rolling Stones U.S. Tour. They contributed $1M from the tour to Katrina Relief efforts yesterday.

Uh huh... not a whole lot more to add to that now, is there?

Neo-cons are Christians? Doesn't the monicker Neo-con mean " New Conservative" and haven't Christian conservatives always been conservative? Please explain this apparent discrepancy. Roger, you're eminently qualified.

LWW, I see what your saying but I'm going with the sentiment here if not the accuracy. Besides, it's obvious who they mean..and who they mean are guilty of everything described in the song. WTG Rolling Stones as far as I'm concerned. Kudos!

I saw the Stones in 72' and 75' at MSG and they were great...performers. Why do people put so much stock in what musically or artistically talented people have to say about political and social issues? It's like listening to your proctoligist on the merits of the Federal Reserve System or a horse breeder on disaster management.

"It's like listening to your proctoligist on the merits of the Federal Reserve System or a horse breeder on disaster management." Not really. Artists have as much stake in what happens to our country, and as much of a right to talk about it, as anyone. And why is it that you wingnuts take a Sean Hannity or a Jerry Falwell seriously on social/economic issues but not a Sean Penn or an Eddie Vedder? Finally, almost all of these these artists you all so consistently deride are far more eminently qualified to speak about poverty than, I don't know, say anyopne in the Bush family.

Why do people put so much stock in what musically or artistically talented people have to say about political and social issues?
Because they are just people expressing an opinion. They also happen to be songwriters, so they express their opinions in song, or poetry. The marketing people in the industry then do their best to target markets. Big deal... they are still just people expressing an opinion.

LWW, During the 60's, the christians were usually to the left. But, of course, if you only refer to "conservative christians" you can create stupidity. As your last post shows, you are certainly qualified. What, exactly, do you add to any discussion, except mindless rage?

Roger, please don't try to antagonize me. Do it to someone else. I had a valid point and I got responses which I respect, so go after someone else.

"During the 60's the Christians were usually to the left." Nice try. I had first cousins who were priests and nuns and they were socially liberal ie; civil rights and worker rights. What has changed so much since the 60's? Abortion, euthanasia, gay rights, sex education, fetal tissue research, prayer in school, religious expression....should I go on? You're talking about another time. Back to the neo-cons. The Rolling Stones sang that neo-cons are Christians. What is up with that? Tell me who they are.

Thank you Edger. You know you're an antisemite in many peoples minds? Especially round these parts. My parents are from Ireland and for me to put Ireland and its people before this country and its people is something I could never even imagine. Apparently there are people in this country who think differently. I don't get it.

    LWW:
antisemite in many peoples minds? Especially round these parts.
    ...why is that?

Because the RW trolls want it that way, edger. I've seen the same invective hureled at every intelligent poster that is to the left of AuH2O. Just ask Blaghdaddy, and a host of others.

LWW: Neo-cons are Christians? I think that the majority of people who call themselves Christians would say to you that NeoCons who profess Christianity are full of sh*t, and draping themselves in piety as part of their general deceitfulness. Personally I don't follow any organized religion - my beliefs are my own. Ever since I arrived on this planet people have been trying to corner me into signing on to their belief systems, this one, or that one, or this one. They are all so insecure that they can't pin me down and know how I'll respond in any given situation because I won't sign up to the list of rules, and it makes them nervous. Too bad... That's me... A bit left, a bit right. Socially liberal, financially conservative. Nobodies busines what I do in private, and nobodies business how I spend my money. Sometimes right and willing to take credit for it. Sometimes wrong and willing to admit it. Not anti anyone. And pro a lot of things...
