'I ... get briefed by people who ... probably read the news themselves.'

by Last Night in Little Rock

"I rarely read the [news] stories, and get briefed by people who... probably read the news themselves." --George W. Bush to Brent Hume on FoxNews (September 21, 2003)

[Via Presidential (Mis)Speak: The Very Curious Language of George W. Bush]

Apparently nobody in the White House paid attention to the news until they were hammered for the monumental FUBAR they call "Katrina disaster relief." If FEMA and anybody in the government watched CNN, FoxNews, or MSNBC, they would have learned all they needed to know to at least do something in time. Remember, Saddam Hussein knew more about the 1991 Gulf War from CNN than his own intelligence services. The Bush White House isn't that smart.

How convenient, kinda like when Washington was prez.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that we have a president capable of saying something like that. This is the most powerful man in the world, and he gets briefed by people who "probably" read the news? How can someone in his position admit to being willfully uninformed? I know he is uninformed, but to be so cavalier about it...he doesn't care. Unbelievable.

c-law-he fancies himself a King. The little people read the news, and only report back to him what he wants to hear or risk beheading.

There are not enough adjectives in the language to describe this. If it didn't have such deadly potential ramifications, this would be the most hilariously stupid, boneheaded, braindead, comment ever made by a sitting president. Barbara... did you drop him on his head, or give him drycleaning bags to play with when he was a rugrat? Or WTF happened anyway? Somebody call Bellevue, quick... tell them to warm up the electrodes.

Seriously, c-law. Probably?!?! You know, there used to be a time when people were proud to know the President read three newspapers a day. But then they shot Kennedy and it became a sign of weakness. (Or something... I never can tell why the wingnuts love ignorance so much.)

Have any of you ever heard of, or have knowledge of, Bush using a computer. Does he even know how to browse the web? Uhhh... never mind... I forgot... The internet was invented by a democrat...

Edger, Have you ever read or heard a single paragraph Bush has written on his own? He's given me no reason to believe he has anything resembling an intellect. He makes fun of the word intellect.

Dadler: You know, I never really thought about it before... just assumed (which is often not a smart thing to do) that he probably was not capable of cogent writing. So.. I just googled "bush + writing" and, surprise, surprise: Chapeter 1 - Love and WAR - George W. Bush Even the grammar is correct! As a Newfoundlander I once met would say: "Whale oil beef hooked, bye!"

So, I kept googling, and as Einstein(?) once remarked, "The universe is not only stranger than we imagine... it is stranger than we CAN imagine!" "The Writings of George W. Bush" Heh! You were right, Dadler!

Jim? They need you badly in DC, man... Get over there and put some words in the idiots mouth, will you?

Scar, I think the wingnuts love ignorance because the truth makes doublethink harder.
