Bennett Continues to Make it Worse

by Last Night in Little Rock

Robert William Bennett two days ago proved he was a bigot as noted here. Not to be outdone by the controversy raging around him that he remains completely oblivious to, he goes to the friendly forum of FoxNews with Hannity & Colmes where the questions will be slow pitches he can hit out of the park. Instead, he leans into the pitch and gets beaned. For such a smart man, he sure can act like a dumbas*.

From FoxNews transcripts:

BENNETT: Let me just tell you, when it comes to abortion, my wife's program, Best Friends, has kept more young women from having abortions because they don't get pregnant because they take her good counsel...

HANNITY: Let me...

BENNETT: Than the entire black caucus. She has done more for inner city black girls than the entire black caucus. So I will not bow my head to any of these people. I will not give up the ground of compassion and sympathy. But I'll tell you, we have real issues and we have got to talk about them candidly.

He still doesn't get it. Doesn't anybody on radio and television or the Internet know that every word uttered or written is recorded and played back for them? It is not that he has been on another planet for the last five years and hasn't noticed. It is because he's gotten away with it for so long.

He went to the Tom DeLay School of Political Subtlety, and we know where that got Tom DeLay. Texas DOC will hopefully be opening a branch in about 18 months.

What a racist, arrogant jerk. If he had any integrity at all, he would take responsibility for what he said, apologize to the black community, then go sign up for a class in cultural diversity.

gwg- He is taking responsibility for what he said by not apologizing. A true confirmed racist bigot, and he is proud of it. We will be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months as Chimp King blathers on about how many hundred of billions he is giving to NO. Cleverly he is implying that it is to benefit the poor but we know it will lock out the poor and transfer our tax dollars to Haliburton and wingnut christian groups with Meese and Rove writing the checks. The poor blacks are the scapegoat, kida like terrorist insurgents.

The man fails to comprehend the difference between the following: 1. A large percentage of the impoverished in the United States are ethnic for various causes -- many of them finding themselves in the situation due to (1) decades of state sponsored and private sector discrimination and/or (2) recent immigration from second and third world nations. In the here and now, the impoverished (of all colors, cultures, and creeds) find themselves excluded from opportunities (quality education ,etc.) Apparently in Bennett's mind.... 2. People are poor because of their color, culture, or creed. While I might entertain a better stated and less biased argument that certain cultures and creeds lead to poverty in our current Corporate Welfare system, I will never consider the pseudo-science of determining superiority by race (and determining superiority by standards of wealth). That I'll leave to Nazi's. I'll also not consider the idea that people should be restricted from breeding because they are poor. Darwinism may have basis in fact, but we need not use it as an excuse to enrich ourselves at the expense of those who happen to be unlucky enough to find themselves at a disadvantage in our society. Finally, I continually fail to comprehend why some left-leaning persons care whether or not bigoted people apologize for the things they say and do. Do not expect Conservatives to respect your standards. Accept Bennett as a racist jerk and then move on to find ways to keep A**holes like him from gaining power in the future. No one would believe an apology from this man anymore than they would accept one from David Duke, et. al.

He's Bill Bennett, the hypocritical and shallow moralist, not Robert, the astute attorney brother...

I speak only for one left leaning person, me. After listening to the right go on and on about personal responsibility and character matters etc etc, I am always waiting to see if republicans can walk the talk.

This is just like Bennett -- thinking he is so da*m smart he can elocute his way out of anything -- never admitting he utters a word in error. Always it is the other who misinterprets. It it symptomtic of (another) one who lives in a bubble and as they say, is totally confident that the reality they define is the only one people would/will acknowledge.

Last Night: Not to be outdone by the controversy raging around him that he remains completely oblivious to, [Bennett] goes to the friendly forum of FoxNews to milk the controversy for all the attention and free publicity he can get for himself and his program, and to create more controversy to get more attention, like a spoiled child who doesn't care if mommy and daddy are mad at him, as long as they are paying attention to him. It's cold, and he's a low-life ass. But I doubt he cares what anyone thinks of him: it's cheaper than spending your money on promotion...

From my left perspective, in a civilized society, an apology is the best one can offer after making a racist comment such as the comment Bill Bennett made. To make such a suggestion, to even allow the words to come out of your mouth, "if all black babies were aborted" is racist. It is a loaded statement with a multitude negative implications. You just don't present ideas like that, unless you are unaware and lacking in sensitivity. And once you realize you were unaware and lacking in sensitivity, you apologize, and pray to God you never make the same mistake again.
