Weekend RoveGate Reading

Digby has two fabulous guest bloggers this weekend - Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake and Tristero. Jane's RoveGate writing has been top notch.

Two more RoveGate bloggers to read every day: Tom Maguire of Just One Minute and Empty Wheel of The Next Hurrah. [Addition: Needlenose is another one.]

Regarding Karl Rove, this blast from the past by Murray Waas that appeared in the March 4, 2004 American Prospect is well worth re-reading:

President Bush's chief political adviser, Karl Rove, told the FBI in an interview last October that he circulated and discussed damaging information regarding CIA operative Valerie Plame with others in the White House, outside political consultants, and journalists, according to a government official and an attorney familiar with the ongoing special counsel's investigation of the matter.

But Rove also adamantly insisted to the FBI that he was not the administration official who leaked the information that Plame was a covert CIA operative to conservative columnist Robert Novak last July. Rather, Rove insisted, he had only circulated information about Plame after it had appeared in Novak's column. He also told the FBI, the same sources said, that circulating the information was a legitimate means to counter what he claimed was politically motivated criticism of the Bush administration by Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson.

Two more RoveGate bloggers to read every day: Tom Maguire of Just One Minute and Empty Wheel of The Next Hurrah. Sheesh. No respect. I mean, if you're after word count, I guess Maguire ranks pretty high, but his analysis is generally somewhere between witless and deranged. (Your link made me waste time looking at his latest post, which surmises that the Wilson trip was itself classified -- something that has long been known not to be the case.)

swopa- Party pooper. Maybe you should go back to watching soap operas and stay clear of the plame blogging. Perhaps that is more your style. I hear the stories change every day, good looking actors as well. For the rest of the Plame addicts ReddHedd has some jucy bits about Gannon/Guckert. When he interviewed Wilson he cited the secret memo and when asked how he knew about it he said that he read about it in the WSJ. Well his interview with Wilson was a month before the WSJ article. Yes, swopa, this has been written about before, but it is nice to think about it again as Fitzgerald finishes up we can wonder if baldie has been in the hot seat yet:
You must take a look at this: according to The Left Coaster, Gannon interviewed Amb. Wilson in September of 2003 -- a full month prior to the article regarding the INR appearing in the WSJ. Oops. Guess he and Fitz may have something to talk about after all. (If they haven't already -- whether or not Gannon has been before the Grand Jury is pretty much an unknown at this point, since he caught a case of the clams after bragging to media outlets that the FBI had spoken with him last February.)

witless and deranged That is not quite as strong a rebuttal as an actual link. I understand why the Wilson apologists would like to pretend that his trip was not classified, but what (other than his self-interested say-so, please) is the evidence?

So JimmyJeff is likely to be squealing soon, if he hasn't already. At what point after indictments do the various parties start negotiating plea agreements? Or has that started?

Swopa-Guess you are right about Maguire. I had not gone to his site until now, what a load of nonsense. TL is evidentially offering a 'balanced' set of sources. Never had seen support for Wilson and Plame to be indicted until just now. Next he will find evidence that Fitzgerald had broken some law. I see your point now as no respect for not being included by TL. You are certainly way ahead of Maguire, I agree that he is a waste.
