Bennett's Role in Judith's Tell-All

Raw Story confirms that Judith Miller's attorney Robert Bennett had a hand in writing her Sunday article in the Times explaining her role in PlameGate.

No lawyer would let a client write a tell-all about a recent appearance before the grand jury in a case in which she was a principal player and had been held in contempt without reviewing it first and probably making some changes. As I wrote on Saturday about the article:

For anyone who still thinks [Miller] is going to be indicted, please understand that her lawyers would have carefully vetted this article before they allowed her to send it in to the Times. If Miller was in jeopardy from Fitzgerald, there would have been no article.

I agree. I think she's an unindicted co-conspirator. But I also think Bennett and Abrams got punk'd by Judy over the June notes and the "I don't recall my true source" and that last week her deal was in jeopardy.

I believe both are still her attorneys. Bennett is her private attorney, and Abrams was hired by The Times to defend her. As you noted, Abrams is not a criminal defense lawyer but a First Amendment lawyer. Bennett is a criminal defense lawyer. It would be Bennett that handles her grand jury appearances and personal criminal exposure once he came on board. Also, if the Times and Miller developed competing interests, Miller would want a private lawyer on board whose interest was only protecting her, not the paper.

So the Millions $$ in legal bills incurred by the NYT for Miller's defense does not include payments to Bennett? I understand why Miller needs a private lawyer as you point out but millions of dollars for Abrahms alone seems quite steep.
