Police Chief John Timoney's Son Arrested

This is sad.

The 25-year-old son of Miami police Chief John Timoney was arrested for trying to buy 400 pounds of marijuana from an undercover federal agent, the Drug Enforcement Administration said Wednesday.

A court complaint said Sean Timoney of Philadelphia gave the agent a gym bag filled with approximately $450,000 in cash.

Update: Ed Hayes will represent Sean Timoney. While the news article states the penalty could be 40 years, the guidelines for 200 kilos of marijauna are around five years. If Timony pleads guilty, they would be less. If he cooperates and tells who else was in on the deal (the source of the funds) he'd get even less. And with the guidelines are no longer mandatory, he could catch even a bigger break.

I often fantasize about finding a bag full of case someplace... but that dream is tempered by the reality of so much misery wrapped up in so much illegal cash.

Surely it's pure coincidence that the police chief's son had 450 grand in cash, right, Patrick?

Is this a case of the acorn not falling far from the tree? Or is it a case of "Noelle Bushism"?

No, it's a case of chickens coming home to roost, or something like that.

Scar, What a police chief's son can't use medicine? If it's not bad for anyone, then it's not bad for a cops kid. Of course I don't believe that and it's intellectually dishonest to hammer him because of his father, if you support legalization. Either way, he sounds like a drug dealer to me.

Obviously, here is a kid who took DARE faaaaaaaaaaar too literally. Yup, that War On Drugs is working so swimmingly well, dontcha think? Hell, even the children of law enforcement aren't listening.

Who cares? This is a monumental waste of time and resources. Pot should be legal. Although I'm sure Mr. Police Chief will now find it in his heart to lobby for a reduced sentence -- exactly the oppostite of what he'd do for anyone else. Brew your own beer, you're fine. Grow (buy, use) your own plant, you're not. This is called puritanical illogic, the kind our nation was founded on. The pilgrims drank beer, came ashore where they did partly because they'd run out of fresh water to make their frothy spirits. And alcohol is the national drug. While pot gets treated like witches did in Salem. Pointless, ridiculous, and counterproductive to the nth degree. What year is this? Jeez.

It’s quite a stretch to hold this guy in any way responsible for what his 25 year old son does or doesn’t do. Depending on the quality it doesn’t sound like much of a deal to me; 400lb @ $70/oz. In my experience the markup on even a 1/4lb sold in 1oz portions is around 500%. To get that kind of markup he would probably need to make ~400 transactions himself. This guy isn’t much of a businessman. Buying weed from the DEA at DEA propaganda ‘street value’ prices; what a tool

"I often fantasize about finding a bag full of case someplace... but that dream is tempered by the reality of so much misery wrapped up in so much illegal cash." Funny, I have first hand knowledge of a guy that did just that. Two bags, actually, and two suitcases. This minimum-wage janitor at a self-storage facility now owns a nice home. He tells people that he won the Canadian lottery. No idea what happened to the stressed-out character who showed up the day after asking about the bags and suitcases...

I'm impressed when a 25 year old child of a civil servant can come up with half a million in cash. He must have had quite a distribution operation going. I hope none of my connects go through this particular distribution chain, the Christmas time drought is bad enough:) What's going on with law enforcement in my neck of the woods. The DEA focusing on reefer, the NYPD focusing on poker clubs, do they really have nothing better to do on our dime?

Another classic, this time from pigwiggle:

LOL. The party of family values finally speaks up. Gee, I wonder who in Florida could sell a quarter of a million dollars in weed. Couldn't be the MOB, could it? I bet the police department vice cops were too busy looking into that new scourge: prostitution. That and whistling past the graveyard of the chief's office. TOAST.

“LOL. The party of family values finally speaks up.”
Paul, I don’t give a $hit about family values. Folks are responsible for their own actions, not those of the people they are unfortunate enough to find themselves related to. Find your strawman somewhere else.

At age 25 it's personal values. Perhaps his father was a bad role model, but that's a tired old meme.
