NSA Warrantless Surveillance Hearing Set for Jan. 20

Rep. John Conyers has announced the Democrats will hold a hearing on Bush's warrantless electronic surveillance program on January 20.

Rep. Conyers also highly recommends constitutional scholar Laurence Tribe's letter outlining the illegality of the program, which he includes in his post.

    et al - This is not a "congresssional hearing." Rather it is a meeting of Democrat Repsentaives designed to attract attention to themselves and their inaccurate claims. Some might call it a "show trial."

    not a "congresssional hearing." It's not a chocolate sundae either, and no one has claimed it is. Some might call it a "show trial." Some might... who knows why. Then again, some might call it a "Democratic hearing" as Conyers did when he said "I announced today that I am calling Democratic hearings (though all are welcome)"

    The democrats are holding hearings, hmmm! Actually, I think this is a great thing. The security vrs liberty debate is exactly what we need. After all it looks like our security is going to be threatened by the terrorists for a long time coming, if not permanently, and it is about time that we settle this debate with popular concensus, and then begin to predicate our policies based on this. Lets hope the democrats holding these hearings take them seriously and try to do more than just give the W admin a black eye.

    Terrorists have always been here. You just didn't care as long as they were only killing people whose views you didn't agree with. A threat to life is very bad; a threat to freedom is worse.
