Someone needs to call the Young Turks @ 323-866-8201 Tell them the "clairol" plan of calling two friends and they call two friends etc. That's a geometric progression and after just 10 layers their will be 1023 calls and emails. That's from one person starting the chain by calling two people. If 100 people start a chain that goes 10 layers that's 100,000 people. If it goes 20 layers that's is over a million for each person who starts a chain. The numbers will convince people to call.

You were right on top of me, TL. But is Obama going to vote to continue? I sure couldn't tell from this. And his remark critical of the party for what he called an over-reliance on procedural maneuvers seemed odd. Congress is a procedural body, and if anything, to me, it seems the Dems haven't used what power they have enough. I certainly don't remember an abundance of filibusters in my lifetime. But who cares? Let it roll at this point.

One time? Now he's openly admitting it's just a pose. Congratulations, Justice Alito.

BTW, Lefties: As much as I disagree with you, about Alito and so many other things, today you have my genuine sympathy, no snark or irony intended. Your team is taking to the field in this, the Superbowl of Confirmations, and is openly announcing beforehand that it's only going thru the motions and isn't gonna run hard, or tackle, or even try to actually win. Gawd, you guys are more patient with them than I could ever be. Go team, yeah right.

ras, why do I get the feeling that that's about the slickest, smoothest, most duplicitous piece of veiled and forked tongued sarcasm I've seen in awhile here? No snark or irony intended, my eye. Go team, yeah right. Sympathy? Spare us...

Edger, No, not this time. However much we disagree, your beliefs are important to you, and heartfelt. And your "champions" are making tough statements before they step in the ring to purportedly fight for you, then openly taking a dive cuz they're afraid to take a punch. That's not right.

The Dems and Progressives have rolled over on this one. I am embarrassed to say it. The Kerry/Kennedy filibuster is only good to keep this in the public eye. They can not sway the bulk to vote against Alito. I think anything that makes the evening news even for a 30 second soundbite is a good thing. And if it goes for a few days, we get even more time on the boob tube..how else are we going to wake up America to what is going on..read his un-qualifications, his storied background..talk some guano about Alito during the filibuster..just get it out there...Hang in as long as possible before folding the tents and moving on. All the progressives without a spine who fail to support a filibuster should be singled out during the elections..that is what I am telling them when I call them about the filibuster...I tell them we will remember this..

Che, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. I have no idea why. Just my nature I suppose. I wrote what I wrote. Then read it. Then wondered what I could have been thinking. Then realized I wasn't. ;-)

Whats the difference between taking a stand and supporting an action that you know has absolutely no chance of success, and doing nothing. Nothing, there is no difference, unless you can convince a bunch of stupid contributors that you really gave it your all.

That can't be right, or the Right wouldn't be trying so hard to discourage a filibuster. There was even an obviously full-of-carp argument that filibustering nominees is unconstitutional, though I haven't heard it much since Roberts. So filibustering won't keep Alito from being confirmed. But instead of getting Alito through with just a wave of the hand like with most nominees, the Republicans will have to take more positive action to end the filibuster. That makes them lose appeal in the eyes of people who don't like Alito. Dems already have to bet that the list of people who don't like Alito will grow after he's appointed, because he's a conservative and they need people to not like conservatives. So they've increased the benefit they get from Alito's hoped-for unpopularity, without expending much effort. They were gonna lose this fight anyway; filibustering sets them up for a stronger fight later.

Roy, Thats the most rediculous convolution of SH*T I have ever heard. Republicans would love to slam down a filibuster with the constitutional option, if for no other reason than to prove that dems are impotent. The fact is, Bush may get yet another appointee, and wouldn't it be lovely if the dems cant even threaten a filibuster on that one. Just because GW doesn't want the bad PR of being devisive, don't confuse that with most republican supporters. Most of us have had it up to their eyeballs with you obstructionists and are salavating at the prospect of shutting you down. In case you forgot, we the people, are the ones who forced out Miers. Bottom line is this.........Dems look like pretensious losers now, and will look like abject failures if Repubs use the constitutional option, and to make matters even better, the dems are the ones forcing this issue on to the front page every day for the last week. The stupidity is almost mind boggling.
