Psych Test for the Day

About every six months, the folks at Neuro Politics take out an ad on TalkLeft, asking readers to take a psychological test based mostly on politics. It's that time again, and I really had fun taking this one. I'm always trying to figure out where they are going with their questions, and I never can. Plus, this time, you get an analysis back. I'm not sure what most of mine means, so I hope I'm not embarrassing myself by publishing it, and I'd be curious for others to post their results in the comments. Besides, what else is there to do this Sunday besides wait for the red carpet to open at the Academy Awards? Here goes:

Your responses are consistent with the following attributes: You have a higher propensity for large-group social bonding. You have a stronger tendency to align your beliefs with your respective social groups. Your social behavior is consistent with stronger serotonergic activity and a reduction in submissive behaviors. Your right prefrontal cortex is more involved in your political decision making than your left. Indicators of enhanced right prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection. Color preferences may indicate an enhanced dopamine level in your visual cortex. You have a higher tolerance for ambiguity in your thinking styles, and a greater inhibition of your left inferior parietal cortex. Your responses indicated a tendency to classify facial expressions as more threatening, and an elevation in activity in your right amygdala. Overall, your cognitive style is balanced between your left and right hemispheres.

Here's the test, and I bet you will find it intriguing.

Just don't tell my psychiatrist about the dopamine stuff.
Your responses are consistent with the following attributes: You have a probable elevation in your dopaminergic activation system. Your olfactory system plays a less than average role in mating behavior. Indicators of enhanced left prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection. Prefrontal cortical regions are facilitating greater than average behavioral inhibition. Color preferences may indicate an enhanced dopamine level in your visual cortex. You have a preference for umambiguity in your thinking styles, and a probable elevation in your left inferior parietal cortex and left temporal cortex. You exhibit an elevation in visuospatial task performance. This seems to be primarily facilitated by your prefrontal cortex. Your responses indicated a tendency to classify facial expressions as more threatening, and an elevation in activity in your right amygdala. Overall, your cognitive style is shifted more towards your left hemisphere.

Not sure, but I think generally I'm taller on my left side. ;-)
Your responses are consistent with the following attributes: You have a higher propensity for large-group social bonding. Your social behavior is consistent with stronger serotonergic activity and a reduction in submissive behaviors. Your right prefrontal cortex is more involved in your political decision making than your left. Your olfactory system plays a less than average role in mating behavior. Indicators of enhanced right prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection. Temporal cortical regions are facilitating diminished behavioral inhibition. Color preferences may indicate an enhanced dopamine level in your visual cortex. You have a preference for umambiguity in your thinking styles, and a probable elevation in your left inferior parietal cortex and left temporal cortex. Your responses indicated a slight tendency to classify facial expressions as less threatening, and a more bilateral orientation of the amygdalae for facial recognition. You exhibited an elevation in emotional recognition in this survey. Overall, your cognitive style is balanced between your left and right hemispheres.

Hey, this could be the reason that this is the first time I have ever responded to a blog, despite my long time addiction to reading them. :)
Higher involvement of your olfactory system in your relationships.
    Smell matters! LOL
You have a probable elevation in your dopaminergic activation system.
    Shhhhhh... don't tell.
Your right prefrontal cortex is more involved in your political decision making than your left.
    More logic than feeling?
Indicators of enhanced right prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection.
High level bull hockey/factual descrepency detector?
Prefrontal cortical regions are facilitating greater than average behavioral inhibition.
Rich inner life? And a tendency to hold my cards close to my chest? :)
Color preferences may indicate an enhanced dopamine level in your visual cortex.
Way kewl!!! Built in pain killers?
Responses point to a probable increase in activity in the right anterior cingulate and amygdala.
    Huh?
You have a preference for umambiguity in your thinking styles,
Not sure on the meaning of the "um" prefix. Could mean I don't like descrepancies in ideas, i.e. I prefer cohesive overall approach to life in general. If one idea conflicts with another then a serious rethink is in order to bring about consistency.
and a probable elevation in your left inferior parietal cortex and left temporal cortex.
Intutively detect BS, which is then sent to the right side of the brain for analysis and fact checking.
You exhibit an elevation in visuospatial task performance.
I am an artist. Enuf said.
This seems to be primarily facilitated by your prefrontal cortex. Your responses indicated a tendency to classify facial expressions as more threatening, and an elevation in activity in your right amygdala.
The left side of my brain interprets facial expression with the worst possible response and then the right side jumps in and says, hold on there, let's examine that more thoroughly, and with logic.
Overall, your cognitive style is balanced between your left and right hemispheres.
Hey, that confirms it, I'm definitely a Libra.

Kinda the way I see myself: Your responses are consistent with the following attributes: You have a lower propensity for large-group social bonding than most people. You have a probable elevation in noradrenergic activity, and concurrent deficit in dopaminergic activity. You also have a probable elevation in activity in your prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus in your right hemisphere. Possible reduction in serotonergic activity and a corresponding reduction in dominance-seeking behaviors. Your right prefrontal cortex is more involved in your political decision-making than your left. Indicators of enhanced right prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection. So, Jeralyn, given your line of work, it's nice to see you're a bit skeptical when evaluating people's expressions and stories according to this psych test. You realize things aren't always black and white and you have the ability to at least see the strengths and weaknesses if not argue both sides of the issue. That must come in handy from time to time.

Your responses are consistent with the following attributes: -You have a higher propensity for large-group social bonding. I enjoy parties. -Higher involvement of your olfactory system in your relationships. You just gotta shower. >You have a probable elevation in your dopaminergic activation system. Huh? >Your social behavior is consistent with stronger serotonergic activity and a reduction in submissive behaviors. Who are you to tell me what to do?! >Your right prefrontal cortex is more involved in your political decision making than your left. Apparently I'm an "intuitive and holistic" political thinker. Who'd a thunk it? >Indicators of enhanced right prefrontal and bilateral temporal activity in humor detection. Uh, ok... >Temporal cortical regions are facilitating diminished behavioral inhibition... ...which gets you in trouble sometimes. >Color preferences may indicate an enhanced dopamine level in your visual cortex. Me no likey garish colors. >You have a preference for umambiguity in your thinking styles, and a probable elevation in your left inferior parietal cortex and left temporal cortex. Spot on. >You exhibit an elevation in visuospatial task performance. This seems to be primarily facilitated by your parietal cortex. I build stuff good. >Your responses indicated a slight tendency to classify facial expressions as less threatening, and a more bilateral orientation of the amygdalae for facial recognition. Agreed. Amygdalae? >You exhibited an elevation in emotional recognition in this survey. Must be those danged amygdalae: "Your amygdalae are essential to your ability to feel certain emotions and to perceive them in other people." >Overall, your cognitive style is shifted more towards your left hemisphere. Sounds about right: Left Hemispheric Functions: Connected to right side of body Deals with inputs one at a time Processes information in a linear and sequential manner Deals with time Responsible for verbal expression and language Responsible for invariable and arithmetic operations Specializes in recognizing words and numbers Does logical and analytical thinking The seat of reason Crucial side for wordsmiths and engineers

The authors of the Neuropolitics site claim that liberals are more susceptible to anxiety and depression than conservatives, and are also more aware of what's happening in the real world. I suspect we're anxious and depressed because we're more aware.
