Karl Rove Gives Lecture Today, Won't Answer Questions About PlameGate

Think Progress reports that Karl Rove gave a lecture this morning at American Enterprise Institute. During the Q and A, reporter David Corn asked him why he denied to Scott McClellan that he was involved in the Valerie Plame leaks probe. Video is here.

From the transcript:

CORN: David Corn from "The Nation Magazine" on a different subject. Scott McClellan told the White House press corps, many who are here today, that he had spoken to you and you were not involved in the CIA leak. Can you explain why the American public, almost two and a half years later, hasn't been given an explanation and don't you think it deserves one for that misinformation because it does seem you were to some degree, though maybe disputed, involved in that leak?

ROVE: My attorney Mr. Luskin made a statement on April 26th. I refer to you that statement. I have nothing more to add to it. Nice try, though.

What a creep...buter wouldn't melt in his mouth. I suppose a person with an anti-social personality disorder is likely to emmulate the appearance of feeling when actually they are just imitating what they see others doing. Rove certainly fits that description.

Hmmm. Wonder what that was about?

So I take it there's no word on his indictment...Someone in another thread said he had cancelled this engagement and presumed it was because he was about to be indicted. Disclaimer: I really don't care if he is, but I think the reaction here would be priceless if he wasn't. Before everyone gets all lathered up, I don't care because I think it will be meaningless in the big scheme of things and will detract from the business of the county, which has plenty to do at this moment.

Patrick - Excellent point. edger - He has an attorney, and the attorney has said don't talk. Nothing unique or unsual in that.

Well, this has finally got the MSM talking. CBS News reported 30 minutes ago: Web Report Of Rove Troubles Raises Rash Of Speculation:
Has Karl Rove been indicted? That was the big rumor sweeping the Web over the weekend, courtesy of a report on the liberal Web site Truthout.org. On Saturday, Jason Leopold reported on the site that President Bush's political architect had been informed of a pending indictment: Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald spent more than half a day Friday at the offices of Patton Boggs, the law firm representing Karl Rove. During the course of that meeting, Fitzgerald served attorneys for former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove with an indictment charging the embattled White House official with perjury and lying to investigators

My unconsidered reax: CBS News is waiting to pounce on crazy bloggers. Or, if it pans out, they celebrate. Win-win.

Question from Corn one might say bravo Expected an answer, you silly fellow. For truth you grope, Against all hope. Such a dreamer nice try though.

So if the info was 'declassified' why did libby and rove commit crimes to cover it up and why did miller go to jail for it?

Sailor - You'll have to ask Fitzgerald. et al - Looks like CBS has picked up Leopold's story, which Rove's folks are denying. It'll be interesting to watch this one unfold. Someone is going to have mud on their face.

Did anyone else see this? It's just come up on the MSNBC main page. NEWS ANALYSIS By Tom Curry National affairs writer MSNBC Updated: 2:03 p.m. ET May 15, 2006 Tom Curry National affairs writer -------------------------------- WASHINGTON - Some Democrats have already celebrated the downfall of Karl Rove. At a Michigan Trial Lawyers' Association dinner Saturday night in Dearborn, Mich., the group's vice president Robert Raitt announced -- according to the Detroit Free Press -- that President Bush's longtime strategist had just been indicted. The announcement reportedly prompted a standing ovation by the crowd of 700, which included Sen. Hillary Clinton.

They are doing their best by keeping the focus on smearing Leopold to keep people and the media diverted from their other problems: May 15, 2006 Bush loses the base Houston Chronicle, United States - 32 minutes ago
Folks are jumping off the sinking Bush ship so fast now, Polimom's having trouble keeping up.

That's right...I'm not voting for Bush in 2008! Consider me off the ship as well. Still no word on Rove?

I don't remember what site I read it from, but Larry Johnson said that Joe Wilson also heard about Rove being indicted, and Wilson's sources (plural) were different persons than Leopold's. As to Rove's response to David Corn: I hope you get your ass indicted. I have nothing more to add to it.

T'was heralded here in this very Blog, Karl Rove to be marched much like a Frog. Though criticised quite harsh, Mr. Leopold, He's steadfast and certain, so we are told. Choose you he or Karl Rove you would like to Flog?
