Sunday Night Funnies

Who knew the she-pundit is a long-standing Deadhead? Via Amanda at Pandagon and Sadly No, here's the Jambands interview with the divine Ms. C.

She estimates she's been to 67 Dead concerts and reports she doesn't smoke pot. One of the funniest quotes:

I fondly remember seeing the Dead when I was at Cornell. It was the day of the fabulous Fiji Island party on the driveway "island" of the Phi Gamma Delta House. We'd cover ourselves in purple Crisco and drink purple Kool-Aid mixed with grain alcohol and dance on the front yard. Wait - I think got the order reversed there: We'd drink purple Kool-Aid mixed with grain alcohol and then cover ourselves in purple Crisco - then the dancing. You probably had to be there to grasp how utterly fantastic this was.

Just because someone knows how to have wild fun doesn't automatically exclude them from also being a horrible rascist nasty a$$hole.

I sincerely doubt Ms. Coulter's primary fan-base consists of Deadheads, or of people who have the slightest sympathy for communality, psychedelia, free sex and drugs, etc. Surely there must be some way to use this interview against her.

    A. Coli is all about teh outrageous. If she has a core belief, it is "There is no such thing as bad publicity."

if she actually attended 67 dead concerts, than she smoked pot, and lots of it. all she had to do was inhale. anyone who attended a dead concert smoked, whether they actually had physical possession or not. that she thinks otherwise says a great deal about how unreal her take on reality truly is.

I remember her! She was that tall. skinny guy with the button that said "Reality is for people who can't handle drugs".

My hardcore righty brother-in-law likes the Dead too. GDub likes Creedence. I guess if you're a righty who likes rock-n-roll...you have to seperate the music from the message. Or stick to Ted Nugent and Skynyrd.

Kdog.... I guess if you're a righty who likes rock-n-roll...you have to seperate the music from the message. That's easy enough to do. Besides, every rock song isn't a political message. I still like Neil Young...just don't care for his politics. If fact, if most artists would just sing and STFU about their 'personal' views (IE - The Dixie Chicks) we'd all be better off. Terrible Ted is da man tho!

The attacks on the Dixie Chicks are just another example of the rightwing cowards picking on the easier targets, ie three young women, rather than a stand up fight with the likes of Merle Haggard. Q. On last year's album, "Chicago Wind," you recorded a song called "Rebuild America First" in which you sing, "Let's get out of Iraq, and get back on track." Why do you think you were basically given a pass when the Dixie Chicks were raked over the coals for their comparatively tame criticism of the president and the war? MH: I don't really understand it. I don't know what's new about girls not liking war, first of all. And second of all, they have a right to say what they want to. Third, I'm an American, and I'll back everything they say. I'm not for the war in Iraq because I don't believe they've explained why they're doing it.
