Historic Switch:Biden Drops, Welcome Kamala

Joe Biden has dropped out of the presidential race. He's endorsing Kamala Harris. I'm endorsing Kamala Harris. Anyone who wants a President who doesn't act like he just popped out of a Cracker Jack box should do the same.

From his announcement:

My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.

Run Lola Kamala, Run. You can do this. [More...]

Update: The delegates in Tennessee voted today to switch their support to Kamala. That's the first state. I suspect many more will follow.

    he Kamala Harris Juggernaut
July 22, 2024 at 8:10 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 21 Comments

Playbook: "In a matter of hours yesterday, Kamala Harris garnered endorsements of a majority of House Democrats (153 as of this morning), most Senate Democrats (32), and twelve of the nation's 23 Democratic governors. Two key unions -- SEIU and AFT -- are on board, and four state delegations to the Chicago convention (New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee) have voted to back her."

"The widespread and immediate outpouring of support, which will continue to trickle in today, is a testament to the Democratic Party's eagerness to move on from the last 25 days of infighting, as well as Harris's own underrated skills as a backroom coalition builder."

"Meanwhile, what is now the Harris for President campaign took in $49.6 million in grassroots donations since yesterday's announcement."

Not sure what Nancy's angle is but her main job was the lead the pack trying to talk Joe while ruffling the least feathers as possible.I don't think she wants any part of king or queen making.

    Trump Is Still Attacking Biden
July 22, 2024 at 11:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 32 Comments

New York Times: "In his posts since Mr. Biden's announcement, Mr. Trump has so far not taken direct aim at Ms. Harris or other popular Democrats who have at various points been mentioned as possible options for the ticket."

"Instead, Mr. Trump has fallen back on attacks on Mr. Biden that largely echoed the ones he has been making for years."

Trump Freaks Out Over Biden Leaving Race
July 22, 2024 at 10:46 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 365 Comments

"Joe Biden's exit from the 2024 campaign and the rise of Vice President Kamala Harris as the leading contender for the Democratic ticket has provoked a nuclear-level meltdown from the right -- especially from Donald Trump," Rolling Stone reports.

"In a series of Truth Social posts, Trump also complained that he had been unfairly forced to spend money campaigning against Biden, and even suggested that `the Republican Party be reimbursed for fraud' now that he wouldn't be running against the president."

"Trump even hinted that he may back out of the scheduled presidential debate in September, unless major changes are made in his favor."

"Trump's musings became more unhinged as the night went on. In another post, he suggested that Biden was faking a recent Covid-19 diagnosis. The rant extended into the early hours of Monday morning, when Trump accused Democrats of having stolen the nomination from Biden."
