John Ashcroft Opens Up to NY Times

This coming Sunday, the New York Times will feature a q and a with former Attorney General John Ashcroft. Among the suprising revelations: He makes barbed-wire sculputures in his spare time. Other nuggets:

Ashcroft also suggests the American Civil Liberties Union opposed the Patriot Act partly to make money and add members.

.... Ashcroft, a leading evangelical, admits he is a sinner, explaining, "I'm unkind on occasion, and I am selfish." He's an active Christian "because I am not good, because I need help."

Ask about specific "sins," Ashcroft says he has "never had a mixed drink," never smoked a cigarette, and if tempted by another woman he would immediately call "my wife."

i always suspected the ACLU was behind the Patriot Act. they probably also were involved in setting up those planes plowing into the world trade center as well. those guys are always on the lookout for ways to make money and get new members! could mr. ashcroft possibly be a bigger putz?

A classic case of projection. When you yourself are unprincipled and covet unseemly amounts of money and power of course you see such motivations in everyone else. As for sin, I would be interested to see if Ashcroft cops to bearing false witness. That's the first one I would pin on him. Second to that, I would bet good money he took the Lord's name in vain after he lost an election to a dead man.

Ok I can understand Ashcroft not drinking. I can understand him not smoking. I can even understand him being tempted by women other than his wife. But what was weird was when Ashcroft put a drape over the exposed breast of the statue Spirit of Justice (its the statue behind Ashcrot in the photo). I wonder what impure thoughts went through his head when he gazed upon the Spirit of Justice.

I wonder if barbed-wire sculptures are a common thing. How exactly does a person pick up that hobby?

"because I am not good, because I need help." no argument here.

When he was at the podium, his back was to the boobs, so he couldn't see them. Did he admit to never dancing?

John H - I read someplace that the statue was covered because of painting that was to be done... Sorry to pour water on your urban myth. anon writes:

Yeah, those religious types do that. Kinda makes you mad, right? They should be careful. One guy who did that got himself nailed to a cross.

funny, the left can listen to the mini-hitler of iran or the rantings of the NK psychopath without such a bad taste. in fact, they find common ground with the nuts and jew haters of the world-there were many nods of agreement here with mini-Hitler and his genocidal ranting. John Ashcroft saying "God", however, gives them the hives.

I think I know...he wanted to f*ck the Spirit of Justice right in the arse. And that's exactly what he did as Attorney General.

I wouldn't care if it was John Doe from St. Louie...but from the Attorney General, all that taking of superstition as fact gave me the willies...yes indeed. Krazy Kim and Iran's nutjob have no authority over me...Asscroft did.

Same way you guys keep saying "Bush lied..." And provided links to demonstrate the claim, as I've done here for mine, and you've failed to do so for yours No middle ground left. When you want to join the reality-based community, I'm sure we'll welcome you back with open arms. et al PPJ originally stated here that he posted to represent "the truth" here years ago. Now he's at the stage of saying "I heard it somewhere". and that's the truth.

Just like all the other lies you've told you got nutin' to back it up with.
Same way you guys keep saying "Bush lied..."
And we have multiple links, including bush's later statements to back them up ... I get it, you're just a troll trying to change the subject from ashcrack's revelations. Well, it worked again, I fell for it again. From now on any reply I make to a comment of yours will include links to these lies from you so that new readers don't fall into the same cycle of proving the troll wrong that I did.

Sailor not to mention the fact that when PPJ does ask for a link from anyone, you can quote the above, and show him up. He'll forget that he wrote this, you can bet garbage to doornails on that.
