Trump vs Cruz vs Kasich

Update: Trump won big, 60% of the vote so far, and 84 of 95 delegates. Kasich did pretty good for him.(25% of vote and 2 delegates.) Cruz bombed. Zero delegates. Here's a funny and short Washington Post video about Kasich eating his way through New York, he really looks like he's enjoying himself. Interesting exit poll number from Fox: 60% of NY Republicans are either concerned or scared about the prospect of a Ted Cruz presidency.

Original Post: All news seems to have auto-play video when it comes to Republicans. Here's a thread to talk about the Republican race for the nomination. Is Kasich picking up steam? I think it will either be Trump or Kasich. No one is going to nominate Ted Cruz. Republicans might as well nominate no one, since Cruz has zero chance of winning in November.

He looks more and more like an undertaker to me.

The elephant in the room is the (5.00 / 1) (#1)

    RNC who makes the rules.

The Donald is right that he is getting the short end of the stick in how delegates being awarded not on the basis of votes he got.  It is clear Cruz understands the rules better than almost anyone and has recently gotten a big boost from several states where he rolled up lots of delegates because of strange selection methods.  Kasich reminds me of Milton Waddams in Office Space who had been laid off and he was never informed and, due to a payroll computer glitch, continues to receive regular paychecks.

Trump seems to be on a hiring spree and given his popularity with voters if he can get closer to matching Cruz's ability to wrangle delegates using rules instead of votes would be my guess as favorite.

The thing is no one knows what the rules will be.  If Cruz and Trump have their minions vote for Rule 40b that would seem to eliminate Kasich.  With only two candidates to vote for it will be interesting to see what Trump and Cruz offer delegates for their votes.  I would not be shocked to see a win on the first ballot.

is the Democrats best hope for keeping the White House. Everyone should hope Cruz gets the nomination. Trump is crapshoot, Kasich could be trouble.

Cruz would lose the general (none / 0) (#3)

But in some ways I think Trump opens up more opportunities for Dems downticket.  Trump is a crapshoot, but one that is frankly getting less threatening daily.  And he turns off a lot of the rank-and-file conservatives, which could help immensely in house and senate races.  Cruz doesn't stand a chance in the general, but he is less likely to lose the conservatives who will vote more in downticket races, IMO.

Although Trump is a bit of an unknown...could make us all nervous in the general.
