'Deep Throat's' Identity Soon to Be Revealed

Watergate's "Deep Throat" is ill and the Washington Post has already written his obituary, according to John Dean who also writes that Deep Throat's identity will be revealed shortly.

Dean thinks it's one of his former compatriots at the Nixon White House. He will be discussing this tonight on MSNBC's Countdown.

Over at Romanesko, Author Adrian Havill writes that Deep Throat is none other than former President George Walker Bush. Who is not ill, as far as we know. Editor and Publisher has more.

    Old Man Bush looked pretty well in Jacksonville last night. On the other hand, Rehnquist is supposedly not long for the world.

    I said in the post that HWB is not known to be ill. He seems fine, and I hope he remains that way.

    The former president is George HERBERT Walker Bush. George WALKER Bush is none other than the current preznit W.

    The Washington Post has "Watergate Revisited: Deep Throat?" here. In terms of the metaphor "Deep Throat," thinking of a funny triple pun (alluding to not only to being a "deep undercover source" and to the Linda Lovelace movie, but also to Henry Kissinger's "deep-throated" almost gurgling speaking voice), I always thought it was Henry Kissinger. But then "deep throat" would be far too-obvious a pseudonymn? :-) Descriptions in various places of the person (man) being scotch-drinking life-of-the- party type though might not seem to fit HK so much as an intelligence guy--e.g., George Herbert Walker Bush was head of the CIA, but, I haven't seen any reports of either one being ill either. After seeing All the President's Men, I've always had difficulty picturing anyone extremely recognizable from tv appearances--like Kissinger--meeting "clandestinely" in parking garages where they might be seen by passersby who might notice them and blow their cover. (At the time, GHWB was less known to audiences. But, again, he doesn't appear to be ill and close to dying now.) Nevertheless, with that generation in their 80s now, illness may be an imminent and sometimes sudden possibility for any of them. Washington Post obit. writers would have draft obituaries almost ready to go to press for anyone who has held high office and is in their 80s, inc. both Kissinger and the 1st Pres. Bush. Ironically, it may be someone so much lesser known that once (likely) he is revealed, people will say "Who???!!!"

    This isn't the first time that "Deep Throat" has been about to be exposed. Problem is, it's hard to expose someone who doesn't really exist, and in all likelihood, "Deep Throat" doesn't exist and never did. Which would explain why they are only going to out this person after their death. It's hard to defend yourself from beyond the grave.
