Isn't it good to be 'wrong' sometimes, Quaker? Paul Shanley....nothing nice to say here. He got better than he deserved though.

Isn't it good to be 'wrong' sometimes, Quaker? Maybe. But not this time, I think. Shanley was convicted only on the "recovered memory" testimony of his accuser? I'll be eager to read any explanations from jurors of how they cleared the hurdle of reasonable doubt.

Excellent verdict! Let's hope he gets life in prison with alot of very friendly inmates.

Lacey, you should be reading a different site. I'm with Quaker...repressed memories without corroborative evidence doesn't pass reasonable doubt for me.

According to Monday's NYT, the jury decided Shanley was guilty because they couldn't think of a reason why the accuser would lie. This is evidence?

i agree with TL on the recovered memory stuff, but i have to say shanley's reaction to the verdict did not lend me to believe he is innocent. not a good basis for a legal system, but human beings are faulty creatures.

Here's an article from the Boston Globe. It makes me wonder about the involvement of the jurors say in their parish if they were Catholic, etc. I'm Catholic and at the time this started breaking, we were outside of Cleveland and participated greatly in our parish...social justice committee, parish council, eucharistic ministers - that kind of thing. Nothing has shaken my 'faith' in the church more than the bullsh*t that especially went on in Boston (Cardinal Law), Cleveland itself with Bishop Pilla and a few priests whom he had transferred around as well. It was just another institution working to cover its ass.

Et al... Just a general question for anyone on the left.... Is anyone ever guilty of anything in your eyes?
