Blog Wars

Now the right is going after Atrios by putting his photo in a gay singles online ad. As if he or Mrs. Atrios care.

But I care. I took the photo. And a user of Dating Tech Network and Gay Singles Online has appropriated my photo of Atrios and uploaded it to the network's server as their own.

I don't see a contact e-mail address for anyone other than members so maybe Dating Tech Network or Gay Singles Online will read this and remove the unauthorized use of my photograph of Atrios. Or they can credit TalkLeft.com for the photo.

Update: That was quick. It's an hour since I sent an emailto an address I found in the comments here and you can no longer access the page with the photo and false comments about Atrios. A registration page comes up instead. Mission accomplished. End of story. They must have banned my IP for overacessing the site. The photo and page on Atrios is still there.

[Also, I did not mean to suggest a conspiracy of right-leaning people were behind this attack on Atrios as opposed to one person with those views. It's just common sense that a liberal would not go after Atrios this way, if at all.]

I admire your ability to blame an entire political ideology for the action of one or two doofuses who are probably too young to vote anyway.

Roy: then the right can come to TalkLeft and Atrios's defense by demanding the removal of the photo.

You have to have a star wars character's name in your email address to sign onto JAWA. There's only one word for that site. Juvenile Duncan really struck a nerve. They are spontaneously combusting.

TL, I'm not necessarily taking issue with this, and I certainly agree that whoever did this is a jacka$$, (even IF Atrios were gay, that's for him to to deal with and make known as he wishes), but what evidence do you have that anyone from "the right" did this? Is this just supposition based on Atrios' politics, or do you have some evidence that I missed? Thanks

Well the first step is getting a hold of the dating site, which is most probably an innocent party in this case and see if they will remove the content. But if you really wanted to be a hard ass, you could compel them to reveal the identity of the person who uploaded the picture and go after them. I don't get that's what TalkLeft wants to do, she just doesn't want her photo used without attribution, and I don't blame her. I wouldn't want something I owned to be stolen for any purpose, let alone to be used to attack one of my friends.

Do you have any idea who actually did this? Even if it is someone "from the right", does that mean that all people "on the right" are bad? I note from the comments that many of the people here think so; you have many disappointing elections ahead of you in that case. Another thing, since you feel free to group the entire right into one bag - how's about we just conclude that the Ted Rall is the same as the rest of the left?

I think it's part of the plot to keep the left & right bickering so the moderates can take power. It's a vast centrist conspiracy. The moderatati. The Beige revolution.

James, typical right ploy, trying to change the topic to something I never said, that all right-leaning people are bad. Don't bother. I don't want to sue and I don't want compensation. I just don't want the photo I took of Atrios being used to perpetuate a fraud. The company is based in Washington state. According to the website, Dating Tech Network is a d/b/a/ (doing business as) and a subsidiary of another company, Joeski Communications, Inc., a Washington State Corporation. Joeski's status is listed as "terminated" according to Washington State business records. The aol email address for Hobbs is invalid. It is a popular site. There are 250 members online right now and you can view who and their photos. Anyway, I don't think the company is involved. It's probably one user who dislikes Atrios' political leanings. And yes, I think it's a fair assumption it's not a liberal.

OK, so this Jawa guy did it, and he's on the right. Looking over his site backs up my "doofus" theory. He has as much to do with the right as an animal rights protester who throw paint on fake fur has to do with the left.

TL, the link still works for me, too. Same pic, looks like the same text, but did it used to say "(THIS IS A PARODY)"? Maybe they plan using using parody / fair use to keep it up.

It did have the parody line, but I doubt the parody exception allows the use of a third party's copyrighted works to engage in a parody.

I have a sneaky suspicion that DatingTech owns this company but from what I can tell, both dating services are hosted by this company: TangoWire Corporation 601 Union Street, Suite 1601 Seattle, WA 98101 206-448-6901 domains@tangowire.com The server that hosts datingtech.com has over 2671 web sites hosted at that one IP address (66.150.5.100) If I'm reading this whois crap right they have an address block from 66.150.5.0 to 66.150.5.255 If you would like a complete trace on the main IP address, e-mail me and I will send you the trace results. :) It's more detailed than the standard whois and reveals TangoWire's provider and on down the line. You could start sending them e-mail as well. I'm sure there are violations in the terms of service in their agreements somewhere.. maybe you could get the domains taken offline! (at least temporarily.) -Todd

I seem to recall someone over on the Right saying something along the lines of Ward Churchill is the spokeman for the Left. Insta-, Insta-... somebody help me out here? I seem to recall someone else (who supposedly has a blog - but really has some white space on a web page that she is getting paid for) say that the only way to talk to liberals is with a baseball bat. And quite a few other comments that lumped all liberals together. I'm reasonably certain (I haven't been there for a while, so I can't say for sure) that Little Green Footballs and Free Republic make these sort of generalized statements about the left on a daily basis. Except their statements usually involve exterminating liberals, or sending them to Gitmo, or much more, um, radical sentiments towards their fellow Americans. Funny how you don't seem to notice, or mind it, when this sort of lumping together of all liberals goes on - but one (sort of, moderate) liberal blog makes a sweeping statement of that nature, then immediately apologizes for it, and you go off the deep end. Funny how I've never seen much in the way of remorse or apology from the right when they do this sort of thing.

James's statement was posted before TL's apology. And TL's apology doesn't actually apologize for anything. I'm ignoring your other, good, points because I just woke up and doubt anybody is still reading this thread anyway.
