Former NY Cops Arrested For Mob Hits

by TChris

Two New York City police detectives, now retired, have been charged with participating in or attempting to commit eleven murders. At least five of those crimes, and a host of others, allegedly occurred during their tenure as police officers.

In one of the most shocking accusations of police corruption ever in New York, Stephen Caracappa and Louis Eppolito were arrested on Wednesday evening for undertaking a series of Mafia murders, attempted murders, a kidnapping and various other crimes. The two were arrested in Las Vegas, where they now live.

Eppolito apparently took advantage of his work as cop-turned-hit man to prepare himself for a movie role. He played "Fat Andy" in "Goodfellas."

Shocking? My chuckle for the overstatement of the day. I could tell you tales of judges and attorneys just as dirty and I've a pretty good idea where Hoffa sleeps.

Police dept's are kind of like organized crime syndicates. The internal code of silence, the extortion, the murder. We must remember that the police and the criminals are in the same business.

As I've discussed with you before on different threads, kdog, during my indiscrete youth, I dated for five years a guy in a motorcycle "club" (Remember SNL's "it's not a gang...it's a club). Now these guys were no Hells Angels. They for the most part were well-to-do local business owners and what some would call "good 'ole boys". They also dealt serious amounts of coke (I was lucky my boyfriend was an old style biker - strictly Peter Fondaesque Hallucinagens and didn't touch the stuff), and were basically, small time wannabe organized criminals. With that said, MOST of them had immediate family members in law enforcement (i.e. state troopers, DA's office, city cops). THERE WAS NO DIFFERENCE in how the "gang" of bikers and "fraternal brotherhood" of police recruited and enculturated their members, how they used patronage and family connections to circumvent inconvenient laws and how they dealt with "disloyalty" within their ranks. So - no surprise. Any broken broomsticks found??

If you look up Louis Eppolito in the IMDB they describe him as "One of the most highly decorated policemen in the history of the New York Police Department." Not a good look for good cops in NYC. http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0258388/bio

No argument here sister. That's why I take the Groucho Marx view of organizations.

Hey Patrick, How does this happen. Given that they are innocent til proven guilty etc. But 8 separate murders. An apparent long-standing connection to the mob and they are respected and decorated NY police officers? What? Did no other police officers or investigators suspect anything? I guess Serpico is long gone.

the other image that comes to mind with these guys is the police captain in Casablanca who shuts down Rick's Cabaret, saying "I am shocked. Shocked that gambling is occurring." as the cabaret employees hand him his winnings. Ethics and hypocrisy. If you ran into these two guys in the course of their service and protection in NY there's really no telling how you might come out.
