Poll: Americans Down on Congress

While the New York Times is gearing up to charge online readers for its op-ed pages, the Wall Street Journal earns our appreciation by taking the opposite tack and providing free access to articles that might have blogger appeal. Today's example: A new poll that shows Americans have a sharply diminished view of Congress' performance:

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that disapproval of Congress's performance is higher than it has been since 1994, the year voters swept Democrats out of power on Capitol Hill. Americans have grown gloomier about the nation's direction, the economy and Iraq, and by 65%-17% they say Congress doesn't share their priorities.

Even the poll results can be viewed for free here.(pdf).

The fact is our so called Congress has become the enmey of the people. Look at the last 25 years! jobs gone, homeless up by 300 percent, drug dealers running all over the place, terrorists war inside and outside our non borders, mass imprisonment of millions, crime out of control. homelessness/oil/name it, all because we have only political special interest rats running the system. we have under this non congress, zell miller who is something out of the 1870's political ideals, and i mean 1870s political ideals or non ideals. we have in our so called congress billions on billions going to places like Red China and Our good friends in mexico, and our best friends to the murders nuts in sanudi and money going just about any-place but here. and let us not forget our system called social security which you may as well say good by to, or as bush would say.."Good Buy"..boys, thank you for doing the mass number of people were the sun don't shine, what a lot of real fun you poor young people will be living under, because it will become in time something like a stalinism state and most of you won't know why.

Fred: While I'm no big fan of Congress' performance under the Rethuglican's tenure, your comment about "drug dealers" is just silly. If you're going to rant, at least get some facts, like from here or here J

I hope that the midterm elections will reflect the dissatisfaction. Throw the bums out is the old sentiment. I would prefer to keep the best of the legislators but I get to vote on only three of them from time to time and I am generally happy with all three: Patty Murray - very happy with her, Maria Cantwell - not real happy with her, and Brian Baird - generally happy with him. The election results in the next congressional election need to be so lopsided that the elections cannot be stolen without it being starkly apparent to the voting population. I don't know if it can be done because the religious right has dropped its focus on spiritual matters to attend to secular issues and they can turn out the vote. God save us from these Christians who have so little in common with a guy named Jesus.

Congress will never again serve the people of this nation unless we get a third, fourth and fifth party involved in the process. Frankly, both the Dems and Repubs have no incentive to serve anyone but themselves and the deep pocketed special interests they truly represent. They have a nice little duopoly going. I think a good start would be voting out every incumbent in the next election, regardless of party. A national wake-up call that business as usual will no longer be tolerated. If any of the small handful of semi-decent legislatures get ousted in the process, that is a sacrifice that must be made. Fire the whole lot and clean house.

They're probably as fed up with the whole B.S. as Blagh is... Hey TL and everyone, it's been a blast...Blagh's BP has kicked in again and he's taking a little break from blogging and politics to recharge and get re-excited...right, he just doesn't care and would rather go golfing... See you all when he gets back...and keep this excellent site going, eh? Not many political blogs around that actually strive to remain high-brow through all of this... Blaghdaddy
