Cots Brought Into Senate: Frist Schedules All Nighter

It's almost time. Sen. Frist has scheduled an all-nighter in the Senate. Cots have been brought in.

Cots were brought into the Capitol Monday as Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist scheduled an all-night session stretching into Tuesday to dramatize the debate over President Bush’s judicial nominees and the filibusters that Democrats have used to block votes on 10 of them.

    Sounds kinda gay to me.

The Republicans love theatre, don't they? What a pathetic display, and more unfortunate, how many seed-kickers will be taken in by the "spectacle?" As if Frist couldn't just change the rules after an unsuccessful cloture vote...or does he really think the Dems are bluffing and will go home at 4:00am? What a joke...

I'm all for the fight against the filibuster. But the Democrats are being my-way-or-the-way preachers, when they scold Repugs for doing the same. A small compromise is in order. It's painful yes, but necessary to prevent Senatorial stagnation.

It's not the first time they've gone to the "all-nighter" approach. I wrote a blog entry, Senatorial Follies, about the last such farce in November 2003.

Hunh? Are you kidding, Free-One? Did the Dems try to hijack the Florida Supreme Court to "save" Schiavo? Did the Dems change House Ethics Rules so their speaker could continue to act like a hog at the trough unmolested? Did the Dems pay for propaganda disguised as "journalism?" Did the Dems claim that Bolton deserved a vote in Committee, only to postpone the vote when Lugar counted and realized that Bolton would lose if they voted right then? Are you kidding? Blaghdaddy hopes so...

I hope the filibuster runs for several days or weeks even. Make em earn their money.

I don't get it. Bringing in cots is supposed to signify what again?

They bring in the cots so that they can sleep through the legislation like 98% of the rest of America.
