James Dobson on Sandra Day O'Connor Replacement

We knew it wouldn't be long...James Dobson of Focus on the Family has issued this press release on Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement and a replacement candidate.

"Today marks a watershed moment in American history: the resignation of a swing-vote justice on the Supreme Court and the opportunity to change the Court’s direction. The rulings by the Court this June, particularly the schizophrenic decisions on the 10 Commandments cases, have once again demonstrated the desperate need for justices who will interpret the Constitution as it was written, not as the latest fads of legal theorists dictate.

"President Bush must nominate someone whose judicial philosophy is crystal clear. And no one has been clearer about this than the President himself, who said during his campaign that he would appoint justices in the mold of Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia. We have full confidence that he will carry out that pledge."

Hmmmm Scalie and Thomas? How come he wants a couple more activist judges? Whats wrong with moderates? Hell, whats wrong with liberal judges? Show us Georgie, show us that you can embrace diversity in politics! Nominate a liberal!

And let the terrorists win, Johnny?!

Here it comes... I said in 1999 that a two-term Bush Presidency would lead to a right wing court -- back in those myopic days, people said it couldn't happen -- that Bush was a moderate Conservative and that Republicans and Democrats weren't really that far apart. It has been demonstrated over the past almost 6 years that at least the last part of that statement was true. Don't expect any entrenched fight from the Democrats. They're probably on the phone with Bill Frist as we speak planning out the mock fight and ensuing Conservative biased media circus. It should tell you something that one of the very first acts of the Bush Admin was to remove the review of judges by the ABA. Judicial or legal expertise means nothing when weighed against ideological mettle. The long nightmare is reaching its crescendo. It's 2006, if Conservatives still rule our government six years from now, there will be another war, and Roe is toast. Write it down. Bank on it.

LOL Scar... On a side note, it is getting increasingly more difficult to use this site using firefox... The last time it asked me if I wanted to stay signed in for two weeks, i said yes.. That was this afternoon... Of course tonight I had to sign in again. Plus, comments page does not open in a new window, which when I post, I have to hit the back button which gives me dire warnings about "post data" or something...

Johnny, I know this is off topic, but I use Firefox and have none of those problems. Maybe it's your privacy settings.

""President Bush must nominate someone whose judicial philosophy is crystal clear." A spokesperson for Dobson said later that he mispoke. He meant to say that 'President Bush must nominate someone whose judicial philosophy is Kristal Nacht." If you think Bush is not going to stay on in 2009, you aren't paying attention to who is running the SCOTUS.
