Cooper and Libby Old News: Miller and Libby is the Question

Fitzgerald deposed Matthew Cooper about his conversations with Libby ages ago. That Cooper confirmed Libby was a source of Valerie Plame's identity is not news to Fitzgerald. But...now follow the dots. Libby was probably Judith Miller's source. The question is what did he tell her, and did he tell her more than he told Cooper - enough to implicate others in Cheney's office and possibly Cheney himself.

Another question is where and when did Rove and Libby get their information about Valerie Plame Wilson - was it from a classified document, which one, who gave it to them and when did they first see it? And was their leak of it to Cooper and other reporters an intentional attempt to smear Wilson by outing his wife?

I'm keeping my eye on Fitzgerald's bigger picture.

I couldn't agree more. It really looks like Miller is protecting someone from criminal exposure. Both her behavior and Fitz's willingness to send a reporter to jail (and keep her there) for refusing to reveal a source indicate this. I also agree that it's starting to look like this goes all the way to the top, by which I mean Cheney. At first I thought this was mostly a Rove masterminded and executed assault, but it's looking more and more like Libby may have to go to jail for his involvement in a plot Cheney hatched. That said--and this is a little off topic--I'm uneasy at some of the glee I see on some of the blogs and in the liberal press. I was particularly disturbed by Kos' "this is the time," let's get 'em post. I don't like any of the people involved either, but this isn't a time for celebration. Our government has proved itself willing to ruin a woman's career, put lives in danger, undermine national security; all to discredit and get back at a diplomat who wouldn't be complicit in the perpetuation of administration lies. Doesn't make me feel very good.

c-law, I couldn't have put it better. I agree with you entirely, on all counts.
