Ken Mehlman Weasels on 'Meet the Press'

Crooks and Liars has the video and transcript of Ken Mehlman on this morning's "Meet the Press" - he would not promise to support Fitzgerald's decision to indict members of the Administration if that were to happen.

At the end he says, "I intend to support" Fitzgerald's decision.

Russert: But if you have tremendous confidence in him, then you will accept and respect his decision?

Mehlman: I look forward to hearing what he has to say and I intend to respect what he has to say, but again I'm not going to speculate on what he might do.

Shorter version: "So long as he doesn't indict someone I don't think should be indicted, I'll respect his decision."

Update: Today's Meet the Press transcript of Matt Cooper is here.

Although I agree that Fitzgerald is likely the one to decide what charges to suggest to the grand jury for indictment, it is the grand jurors who will decide whether to indict or not. Depending upon who they are and their knowledge of their independent power, they could play a more significant role than we tend to expect (i.e., a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich). From Cooper's story it sounds as if they are actively participating, asking more questions than Fitzgerald. And the grand jurors are apparently predominantly black females. Too bad for Ken Mehlman if he doesn't choose to support our justice system and fellow citizens who sit on grand juries....

I think Mehlman managed to weasel out of almost every question Tim Russert asked him. Does anyone else think he's a little bit sleazy?

Hey, so do I. But it's like a little LED keychain of sleaze held next to Karl Rove's burning 12 o'clock sun. Of course, according to our right-wing commenters, Karl ranks somewhere around Mother Theresa. So I could be wrong.

Did anyone else notice how his eyes kept shifting off to Russert's left? Back and forth, constantly, throughout the entire interview! I had to watch the rerun because I was so distracted by the eye shifting the first time. What, or who was he looking over at? Or is it just a sign of poor lying skills? I thought that was job skill #1 for the mouthpieces of this gang in the whitehouse today.

All he did was show these people for what they really are. Slime hurlers and buck passers. Oh, and liars.
