Blogger Hosts New Green Day Video

Now this is way cool. From Crooks and Liars:

Green Day has given me permission to host the video. I'm working on an interview with the band...

Release: This is the latest Green Day video, "Wake Me Up When September Ends." This timely and politically charged filmic vignette documents Green Day's view of the effects on young soldiers and loved ones left behind. The seven minute epic video causes a moment's pause to reflect upon and understand the impact of what you just watched. Directed by Samuel Bayer, it stars Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen) and Jamie Be.

I hope this starts a new trend of bringing rockers and bloggers together. I'd be glad to host their views (I'll leave the video to C&L) or do an interview. Just send me an e-mail.

When I was 12 I heard my first punk album; the Dead Kennedys, In God We Trust, Inc. It was a tape (remember those?) and the b side was left blank with the moniker "Home taping is killing big business profits. We left this side blank so you can help." The guy who sold it to me had recorded the Violent Femmes self titled 1983 LP on that side, well ,most of it anyway. The mainstream wannabe inde punk, of which Green Day is an excellent example, makes me sad. Punk was great, and maybe still is of you look hard enough. However, the kind of music these guys are playing is derivative, formulaic, and worst of all, whiney (which is completely antithetical to the punk I came up with). I spend a great deal of time looking for new and unique music. If anyone else shares the same sentiment perhaps we can swap some of our best finds on the open topic threads. Here’s a teaser to get you thinking; Zen Guerr!lla, listen to them at Amazon. Some serious gritty southern blues/acid rock fusion; truly unique.

I saw Greenday back before they were "GREENDAY"... They have not changed. PW, ugh... Come on now, if the majority of so-called "indie" music was worth a crap, people would find it and listen to it. I hear you when you speak of the "old days" in punk rock, who doesn't miss Black Flag? and Fear? But seriously, it is only so-called punk aficionados that even start to accuse bands like Greenday of being wannabe indie punk rockers. They were once that. Now they have moved on, and up IMHO.

That was really an assumed point in my post; if even a small amount if small time bands were good I wouldn’t spend so much time sifting the crap heap. Or maybe your point is that if the unpopular bands were good they wouldn’t be unpopular. Well, take a look at the billboard top 200; most folks have terrible taste in music. I know, taste is subjective. Whatever, most folks have taste I consider terrible, i.e. you and the other millions who like GreenDay. I was hoping to find some folks who, like me, mine for the gems, and perhaps trade our finds. This probably isn’t the right place for it; I was fairly sauced when I wrote the first post.

Sorry PW-I get a hint of "rock snobbery" from you. Don't get me wrong my man... Billboard is a crapfest-but the people that drive that tally up are by and large, 13 year old girls and boys with eyes glued to MTV. And disposable income. So basing your assumption that the majority of peoplehavebad taste in music is flawed-the chart you mentioned do not represent an accurate cross section of Americans. For example, my biggest prejudice in American music is country. Can't stand it. But for me to say that everyone who listens to country has bad taste in music is wrong-some of them may also like blugrass (which is great), some of them may like 70's era arena rock like Skynyrd (which is even worse than country) and on and on. But we agree-13 year old girls have terrible taste in music.
