Woodward: Cheney Will Run for President in '08

Speaking at the Aspen Institute, journalist and author Bob Woodward told the audience that he thinks Dick Cheney will run for President in 2008. Cheney will be 67. Woodward says Nixon was 68 when he ran, and Reagan was 69.

I thought Presidents were limited to two terms.

    "I thought Presidents were limited to two terms." So you mean Hillary can't run in 2008? Bob Woodward, the new Miss Cleo?

    Why not? both have been ordered by the oligarchies to ran in 08. after all its away to get bill's wife in the white house. And think of the next guys and girls who will ran for that big house on the hill, like bin laden and Pancho villa? after all its a dead nation and it now a full idea of an empire.

    C'mon, the guy's got a rubber heart. I don't think he'll be able to pull off a grueling campaign at 67.

    Presidents cannot serve more than two terms. A two-term Vice-President can serve two terms as President, although I don't know for sure if a Vice-President who serves part of one term and then a full term can serve a second full term.

    I believe that a motion has been passed either this year or last to do away with term limits for prez. It was slipped in largely unnoticed (no kidding). So we will have Bill & Hillary vs Bush & Bush.

    Who cares? One wing nut is pretty much the same as another... All Cheney will have to do to win is ignore every real issue and start ranting against gays and atheists and the sheeple will vote him in.

    Claxton, A vice-president who serves less than two years of another president's term can be elected to the office twice (making 10 years or less in total). Anything more than two years and they can only be elected once, for a total of 8 years or less. Squeaky, Get serious. These kinds of bills get introduced all the time. They are attention getters more than real attempts to change the Constitution, which cannot be done by Congress alone. Any serious attempt to alter the term limits on the presidency would be well reported and would take years to achieve. And I do find it interesting that so many are willing to believe Hillary when she says she hasn't even thought about whether she will run in 2008, but you'll take Bob Woodward's word for what Cheney has decided, even though the man has never shown any interest in the office and had to be brought back into politics as a VP candidate by Bush. This is just another example of the classic August in DC. Nothing is happening, the lying thieves who call themselves our leaders are all in the Hamptons, and Bob Woodward is pulling stuff out of his butt to meet deadlines.

    I hope he does run. I know it's superficial, but I believe Cheney is too sinister looking to win. Bush can be sinister and pull it off because of "aw shucks" fake Texan charm and likeability, Cheney would never win being AND looking sinister. He's one of the few Republicans I think Hillary could beat.

    justpaul- I am serious. It is not unlikely the the 22 Amendment will be overturned in time for the '08 election. The flag burning amendment has less bipartisan support and is only a few votes shy of getting the 2/3 majority vote for it to pass. The 22nd amendment was passed in '47 and is long overdue to be shelved. I think that Americans should have the right to vote for whom ever they want, even if the voting machines are rigged. Do not underestimate the popularity of the resolutions now on the floor to overturn the term limits amendment.

    Squeaky, It takes more than a sufficient number of representatives and senators voting for something to change the Constitution. It also takes 3/4 of the states voting for it. Furthermore, every constitutional amendment to date has specifically stated that it would not affect the current holder of any office(s) it covered. It is most unlikely that you can get an amendment allowing George W. Bush to serve a third term through this , or any, Congress, and even if you did, you would never get the 39 states it would take to go along. The limit is a good one because it makes it impossible for a sitting president to use the power of the office to extend their reign indefinitely. We've seen what happens with that kind of system in Africa and Asia. I don't think you'll ever sell such a system here, regardless of who you want to be able to elect king.
