Roberts Confirmed

by TChris

No surprise here: John Roberts is the new Chief Justice, confirmed by a vote of 78-22. He'll be sworn in quickly so he can preside over the opening day of the new term, commencing (as always) on the first Monday of October.

Attention now turns to Justice O'Connor's successor. The president's nominee should be announced within days. A photo gallery of some of the contenders for the job is here.

Let's just hope he's another Souter or Kennedy.

I have a technical question: Who swears in a new Chief Justice?

Of course karl is going to pick somebody reasonable looking, and that Edith Jones person looks like just the ticket. Just like Big Time's VP search that found him in the mirror, she will, as far as I know which is precious little about her background, look reasonable, be a woman, will have loads of privledge points so she won't have to tell us anything about anybody in the WH, unvarnished advice and all, yep, $20 to Barbara Boxer's PAC says she's the one.

Glanton -- in the absence of the Chief Justice, the duty falls to the most senior justice, in this case, Justice Stevens.

Bush would be delighted to nominate another radical activist wrong wing anti-choice, anti-freedom, anti-american judge.... So he will. I am so happy that my daughter has potentially 50 YEARS! of wrong wing rule under Judge "French Fry" Roberts... TY Diebold and the voters of the bible belt.

Looks like there will be a lot of turnover in '08. Payback for Dems sell out. Only 22 votes against. Going for the bogus attorney client privilege ploy must have sounded like good insurance as they may need to cover their own butts some time in the future. As government attorneys were working for all Americans, now they are, by Imperial decree, working for elected officials on our dime. Enjoy the party because your days are numbered.
