CARE PACKAGES GO TO SENATORS: "UP ALL NIGHT FOR JUSTICE"

November 12, 2003

Washington - The Coalition for a Fair and Independent Judiciary is delivering "care packages" to Capitol Hill Wednesday for the comfort of Senators who are courageously standing up for the Constitution and the use of the filibuster in judicial nominations.

The group, composed of advocates for civil rights and liberties, the environment, reproductive choice and equality, and other progressive groups, is sending a "Care Package for Courageous Senators," which includes:

* Regular coffee to keep you alert and on your on your toes
* De-caf coffee for your opponents when they go over the top
* Analgesics for all the headaches this is causing
* Tummy tablets for nausea brought on by any or all of the following false charges:
* Racism
* Sexism
* Obstructionism
* Any other "isms"
* Anti-religious bias
* The "unprecedented" use of the filibuster
* Breath mints to insure that your arguments are never offensive
* Filibuster Fig Newtons and Colloquy Candy Bars to keep you energized for the fight
* A pad and pencil to do the math on the many Bush Administration nominees that have already been confirmed
* Letter-size copies of the Constitution to remind us all what you're fighting for

Volunteers will deliver the packages beginning at 2 p.m. this afternoon to
Hill offices.
