I think it's very similar to what happened to culturally Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor. Americans were puzzled by "godless" buddhism, failed to understand any part of the Shinto culture, and in a time of fear, racism and injustice really had a field day. So, here we go with the Muslims. Everything old will be new again.

"I think it's very similar to what happened to culturally Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor. Hyperbole: When an ill-considered, over the top prosecution of one individual is seen as the equivalent of locking up one-hundred thousand people based on their ancestry. Let's try a little perspective shall we?

justpaul, i think conscious angel was pointing out the precedent that exists, and the fact that we are standing near the edge of a very slippery slope. and i think it's a good point. i think that's the perspective we should have.

i remember when this whole thing started, at least in public. it wasn't too very long before it also seemed to be falling apart. it became clear that at some point, the military realized it had a loser on its hands, and started looking for a graceful way out. apparently, they never quite found one. if i remember correctly, they also charged this guy with adultery and downloading porn onto his official laptop, a far cry from espionage.

Echoes of the Somali grocery store in the Seattle area right after 9/11. Persecution is running rampant.
