Dean Spokeswoman: WSJ Fabricated Quote

Atrios has the response of Laura Gross , spokeswoman for Dean for America, to the Wall Street Journal article (free link) based on inaccurate information provided by former Dean staffer Zephyr Teachout claiming Markos of Daily Kos and Jerome of MyDD were paid to blog nice things about Dean (background here).

I got a call Thursday from the Jeanne Cummings, The Wall Street Journal reporter who covered the Dean campaign.....Next thing I know there appears in the WSJ an article so sloppy and so inaccurate that I spent the morning trying to track Jeanne down to find out what happened....

Jeanne's colleagues committed a journalistic no-no: they took her background conversation with me and made up a quote from "a Dean spokeswoman". Their fake quote had this spokeswoman apparently admitting that the bloggers were paid for promoting the campaign. They completely mischaracterized our conversation -- and Jeanne was rightly upset about it. I was, and am, too.

The WSJ should get to the bottom of this.

Bombshell. If I read this right, One WSJ reporter is accusing two other WSJ reporters of shoddy and unethical journalism.

We find out this week that they have given up looking for WMD's in Irag and the big story is whether Kos took money or not. Give me a break.

That's the point. They want us talking about this, not the WMDs. ~A!

She said what I said. Will the right-wing trolls shut up now that their lies have been exposed? Nah.

I fail to see even the tiniest amount of "news" value to this. What about the WMDs? ..Or lack of them really, why isn't the media screaming about that?

The WSJ seems to be making a regular habit of misquoting people in their efforts to denigrate anyone who might not swallow their biased views of the world. Stephen Nodvin

Incredibly sloppy reporting trying to make up a controversy when there wasn't one. Both bloggers blogged about being paid as consultants - MYDD closed down while on the payroll and Kos ran a disclaimer everyday. This is supposed to tie into the Thune campaign secretly paying two bloggers who did not disclose or prominent journalists who did not disclose recieving money to pimp. Drudge and the WSJ are trying to give the uninformed something to talk about - inaccurately how the left also has paid shills in blogdom. Gary Denton

Of course there will be an independant investigation and the editors and reporters involved will have to resign in disgrace. Oh wait a minute, only honorable news outlets do that.

In 2003, I enjoyed reading Zephyr's blog posts. Perhaps some Deaniacs made a few poor decisions, but the way the Neo-fascisti are going on and on about it, you'd think that Trippi's staff had pulled a Nixon.

The wingers huddle, to decide WHICH law or standard to attack next. The media bushes hang low with the weight of their fat bellies and lying mouths. They are Lying Locusts. The Locust Party has one rule: EAT. Nevermind if the people starve when the grain is all converted into locust turdsd. If they wanted to eat, they would have gotten born as locusts. --

From the article: "Now Armstrong is a full-fledged political consultant; he and Moulitsas have set up a firm to advise politicians on how to use the Web to outmaneuver their opponents, much as Armstrong (and many others) helped Dean to do in his campaign.... ...Moulitsas now consults for "a couple Democratic congressional campaigns and interest groups," though he declines to specify which ones. So much for disclaimers and transparency.

desertswine writes - "What about the WMDs? ..Or lack of them really, why isn't the media screaming about that?" Uh, that's been screamed and re-screamed about. But you're welcome to do it again. And again. Paul In LA writes - "The Locust Party has one rule: EAT." You are either the worst, or best, writer of purple prose, with no proof, that I have seen in years. Contact Michael Moore immediately. He needs you. Sailor writes - "Of course there will be an independant investigation and the editors and reporters involved will have to resign in disgrace." Does this mean that Rather will be gone Monday AM?
