Graner's Parents Testify for Him in Penalty Phase

The military jury began hearing sentencing arguments Friday night in Charles Graner's prisoner abuse trial. First up were his parents:

"I bear no malice for you," Graner's father said. "When he came home, we were going to go fishing. He was going tell me about the war. Now, that fishing is going to be postponed. For how long, it's going to be up to you. "I'd get down on my knees and beg to you, but my son wouldn't let me do it."

Graner's mother, Irma, said she will always consider her son a hero. "He's kind, gentle, will do anything for anybody," she said. "He's not the one that he's being made out to be."

The hearing resumes Saturday morning, and Graner will testify.

I'd love to hear Graner testifying about who gave him the orders to "soften them up for us".

For sure, Graner is a hero in his particular style.

Fishing? Fishing? Well, it's too bad the fishing trip with have to be postponed because of this, isn't it? I guess Graner's parents are in denial. I don't blame them, much. (Except that they raised this...this...whatever he is.) What parent would want to believe this child could do the stuff Graner's been convicted of?

I'm so grateful my son is nothing like Charles Graner!

That "I'd get down on my knees and beg" is an unfortunate image, especially coupled with "but my son wouldn't let me do it." Graner's "get down on your knees and beg" scenario has already been documented, and even captured on film. It involves a leash and a collar, nudity, and in the old movie-critic phrase, two thumbs up.

Do not fight for this non nation, because you will go to prison. anyway this non nation is nothing but a good business deal for the 3 percent who ran it. why die for bush and business?

Interesting and telling comment from Mr. Graner the elder that he thinks he needs to point out that he bears no malice. Is he embarassed, humiliated? Going to have to delay the fishing and war stories? Well, he's got the photo scrap book to peruse til he and Mr. Graner the younger can take their fishing trip and catch up on the news. Which way do you think the Graner family voted? I read them as proud redstaters. Bush and Cheney, the party of the Graner family. Go, fight, win.

I'm curious if they ever wondered why all the family pets went missing?
