Mick Jagger Wins the Golden Globe

Just watched Mick Jagger accept a Golden Globe for "Old Habits Die Hard" - song from the "Alfie" movie. It was the best part of an otherwise very dull show. Which might be because I've seen so few of the movies and none of the winning tv shows (Nip and Tuck? Desperate Housewives?)

He was relaxed and funny, although I didn't get the inside joke about Paramount. Does anyone know what he was talking about?

I would have liked it if Jamie Foxx won for Redemption, the film about Stanley Tookie Williams, doing life at San Quentin. He won for 'Ray Charles' though, which was also outstanding.

'Closer' and 'Million Dollar Baby' were big winners. 'Sideways' too. Those seem to be the three to see.

Update: Add the Aviator, Leonard DiCaprio just won best actor award for it. Humble speech, too. Further update: Aviator wins for best picture as well.

Natalie deserved the award. Also, Robin Williams gave a token gesture by dedicating it to Chris Reeve.

re: paramount joke: talkleft, as far as i can gather, since "alfie" was so disappointing at the box office, mick might have been making a joke about heads rolling after a dismal failure.

I actually like Nip/Tuck. They've aired the first couple of episodes of Desperate Housewives here and while it's early days yet it looks like it might have potential. I can see why the right-wing hates it, since it makes typical middle-class married life look like it might not be perfect. Oh, dear.

The Right Wing likes to say they hate Desperate Housewives, but the ratings are equally high in all states. No, I don't have a citation for this, but maybe you can pretend that I'm Hugh Hewitt and just believe everything I say. Nip/Tuck is an awesome show (takes place in Miami BTW). It's on FX (Fox) and is very R-rated. Nudity, cussing, bloody surgery, gangsters, STDs, porn stars, orgies, cross-generational sex, a gazillion boobs jobs, and a few lesbians. All the controversy, sinning, and self-absorbtion naturally leads to a kind of intense soul searching unequalled on TV today. The naughtiness is just a ruse to make you explore the moral dilemmas of American life. It's the most underrated show on the air.

(Still visiting away from home but popped in to say) Went to see The Aviator today (and Phantom)--The Aviator is definitely well worth seeing; DiCaprio's performance deserved the Golden Globe, I think (liked what he said in accepting it too); next up--Million Dollar Baby. Watched 2 eps of Desp Housewives a while ago and liked it; [I like the newish show Huff on Showtime--recommend that.] May have seen Nip/Tuck a few times channel-surfing and watched it all the way through; whatever I saw did take place in Miami but was already into re-runs. Mick Jagger did liven up the Golden Globes, I agree. :-)
