Farewell Party Held for John Ashcroft

Members of the Justice Department gathered today under the infamous blue curtains to bid farewell to Attorney General John Ashcroft. Some of the comments offered up in a jesting manner:

Afterward, guests received a 165-page book titled "Preserving Life and Liberty: The Record of the U.S. Department of Justice 2001-2005."

Ashcroft's parting words:

I will never forget my opportunity to serve alongside you," Mr. Ashcroft said. "I will always give thanks to you and to the Creator for according me this chance to work with nobility."

Plus along with the nice voice and prayer meetings, Ashcroft was apparently one of the Dubya minions who felt that maybe Alberto's treatment of the conventions and detainees was over the line. I wish him well.

Heh, but TL, I'm don't think the title of that book was meant to be a joke. Seriously...

Think twice about this guy and the Powells and their type leaving this administration. Bad as these people are, they may have some principles that do not fit with Dubya's plans. Yes-people like Condi and Alberto are moving up. It's going to be a really hard four years and at the end of it, the repubs may be in trouble. God help us all.

Agreed. As the Rotten Library put it, "John Ashcroft may well be the first principled politician in American history. It's just a shame they had to be principles like these."

I think it is telling that the DOJ felt they needed to title their party favor "Preserving Life and Liberty: The Record of the U.S. Department of Justice 2001-2005.". One would think an appropriate name for a similar publication would read "Preserving Justice and the Rule of Law: The Record of the U.S. Department of Justice 2001-2005." Perhaps these folks are letting their consciences get to them.

I wish we had him instead of Gonzalez, everyone knew ashcroft was a flake and the public looked at him with a weary eye. Gonzalez is far more articulate, far less likely to sing "By the Blood of The Lamb" at a press conference but cut of the same cloth. The monster you know is sometimes better than the monster you don't.
